The news hit hard and fast last week.
Just 3 days after pardoning the violent January 6th rioters, Trump also pardoned 23 anti-abortion extremists who were in prison for attacking clinics in Washington, DC, Tennessee, New York, Florida, Georgia and Michigan. The extremists had pushed through doors. They blocked and terrorized patients. They injured a nurse at one of the clinics. And now they walk free.
The following day, the Justice Department announced they will stop prosecuting most anti-abortion extremists who violate the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances (FACE) Act, and dismissed three pending FACE Act cases related to attacks on clinics in Tennessee, Pennsylvania and Ohio.
This is not theory. This is happening now.
For 36 years, our National Clinic Access Project has worked to defend clinics that have faced bombs, arson, blockades, death threats – and murder. But we have never seen this: Our federal government telling extremists they can attack with impunity.
The math is simple. When federal protection drops, violence rises. We saw it before. We know what comes next.
That’s why we need your help. Now. Today. This hour. Now.
Clinics will need our help with enhanced security measures and to take legal action to fight back against extremists. Communities will need help training more volunteers and mobilizing to support clinics targeted by violence. This costs money. Real money. Now.
And, we also need funds to mobilize and work with states attorneys general to enforce state criminal laws that ban the harassment, intimidation and violence against clinics. And in states where no such laws exist, we’ll mobilize to pass them.
You have stood with us before. You know what we do. You know we do not exaggerate. This is the real thing. The worst threat in our 36-year history working to protect clinics against anti-abortion violence and bring extremists to justice.
Will you help? Can you send an emergency tax-deductible contribution today?
The extremists are moving fast. We must move faster.
