We’ll be blunt, John.

Donald Trump’s first week in office has been a disaster for democracy and for the rule of law.

We saw sweeping pardons for Jan. 6 insurrectionists. We watched his administration try to subvert the 14th Amendment by putting an end to birthright citizenship.

Now, the Department of Justice just put a freeze on all ongoing and new civil rights cases:

As one civil rights attorney put it, they’re effectively trying to “eradicate civil rights” protections and abandon any progress for the next four years.

Donald Trump and his allies are sending a dangerous message that discrimination and injustice will be tolerated, if not encouraged.

There’s no doubt this decision will result in a flurry of lawsuits, and holding Trump and his administration accountable will play out in the courtroom.
