Hi friend, I’m reaching out to make sure you saw the message from Sam regarding the Trump administration’s “energy emergency,” and to let you know we have extended our Inauguration Match until midnight on January 31.

As we begin to fight the many legal battles of the next four years, I want to tell you again that we are ready for this. When they threaten the air we breathe, the water we drink, and the wild places we love, we will fight back. And with your support, we can win.

Dear Friend,

On his first day back in the White House, President Trump declared an “energy emergency” that he plans to solve by expanding oil, gas, and coal production on sensitive public lands, particularly in Alaska.

This is nonsense. The United States is already producing more oil and gas than any nation on the planet ever has in the history of human civilization. If President Trump really believed that we need more energy, he would have ordered agencies to fast-track the Inflation Reduction Act’s transformative investments in the clean energy sector. Instead, he told those agencies to withhold those investments and stall renewable energy development.

What President Trump has actually declared is a “fossil energy emergency” designed to make the oil industry richer while the rest of us pay the price of climate-fueled wildfires, extreme storm events, and insurance cancellations. His actions do nothing to create real solutions and affordable, clean energy for everyone.

We will fight back in court. You can help fund these fights with a special $1:$1 match offer today.

President Trump’s declaration of an “energy emergency” is just one part of his administration’s fossil fuel agenda. This is some of what President Trump did on his first day back in office and how we plan to fight back:

• President Trump ordered agency heads to review any environmental regulations that could pose an “undue burden” on fossil fuels. We will defend these critical regulations, and we come armed with experience: We sued the last Trump administration when it tried to roll back methane standards for the oil and gas industry, weaken protections from hazardous coal ash pollution, and gut clean car standards.
• He signed an executive order to pull the U.S. out of the Paris Agreement, as he did in 2016. Just as we did then, we’ll ramp up our work at the state and international level and in public utility commissions to continue to make gains as we defend progress at the federal level.
• He signed an executive order that directs all agencies to pause disbursement of funds appropriated through the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA). Members of Trump’s transition team have also said they will work with the Republican-controlled Congress to roll back consumer tax credits in the IRA. We will fight for these policies that have unlocked access to healthier, more energy efficient homes and lives.

We know we can win these fights because we’ve done it before.

Every time the administration threatened our clean air, water, biodiversity, or public health we were there to fight back in court. Last time around, Earthjustice won 85% of the cases we brought against the Trump administration.
Help us take on the legal battles ahead and your gift will be matched $1:$1.
