January 27, 2025: Weekly Newsletter

It’s official, President Donald J. Trump has been inaugurated and taken office.

We now find ourselves with a critical window of opportunity—just 18 months to turn the tide and save America. The work ahead is monumental, but the mission is clear: we must push forward policies that will secure our borders, restore law and order, revitalize our economy, and safeguard the freedoms that make this nation great.

This will only be a success if President Trump’s bold agenda becomes a reality. Winning an election is only the STARTING point, not the END goal… so the real work begins now.

The stakes couldn’t be higher. Failure is not an option. Let’s get to work and save America!

119th Congress Committee Assignments

I’m honored to announce my committee assignments for the 119th Congress, where I’ll continue working to advance conservative principles and deliver real results for the American people.

House Oversight and Government Reform Committee

I’m excited to continue serving on the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, where I’ve been appointed to the newly formed Delivering On Government Efficiency (DOGE) Subcommittee. Under the leadership of Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, this subcommittee will focus on rooting out waste, streamlining government, and restoring accountability to Washington.

House Appropriations Committee

As newly appointed Vice Chair of the Energy & Water Appropriations Subcommittee, I’ll champion America-first energy policies that strengthen national security, drive economic growth, and ensure the United States remains the global leader in energy production.

Our district, TX-27, plays a vital role in this mission. The Port of Corpus Christi continues to lead in U.S. energy production, infrastructure development, and exports—achieving record tonnage and revenue thanks to increased Texas-based crude and liquefied natural gas production.

I will also continue serving on the Interior and Financial Services & General Government (FSGG) subcommittees, where I’ll fight for responsible spending and energy independence to put America first.

Reforming Washington: The Federal Agency Sunset Commission Act

With the national debt surpassing $36 trillion, taxpayers are footing the bill for inefficient, duplicative federal agencies and over 1,000 unauthorized programs that continue to receive funding. It’s time to change that.

The Federal Agency Sunset Commission Act establishes a bipartisan commission to review every federal agency’s efficiency and necessity regularly. Modeled after Texas’ proven Sunset Commission, this bill ensures wasteful agencies are abolished, reorganized, or consolidated and holds Congress accountable by requiring expedited votes on recommendations.

This legislation aligns with DOGE’s mission, led by Elon Musk, to cut government waste. By eliminating unneeded and unauthorized agencies, we can ensure Washington works for the people—not the other way around.

Protecting American’s Second Amendment Rights

Senator Risch (R-ID) and I have reintroduced the No REGISTRY Rights Act, a bill to defend the Second Amendment and halt the ATF’s ongoing backdoor attempts to create a federal firearm registry.

An investigation by our office revealed that the ATF had amassed a massive database of over 920 million firearm records.  To make matters worse, the ATF has put pressure on Federal Firearm Licensees (FFLs) even to the point of running them out of business — all in the ATF’s effort to grow this database.

Our bill puts an end to this by:

  • Requiring the ATF to delete its existing database of firearm transaction records.

  • Allowing FFLs to destroy records when they go out of business.

  • Prohibiting any federal agency from ever creating a firearms registry.

The ATF’s database, holding over 920 million records, can easily be exploited to infringe on lawful gun owners’ privacy and liberties. The Second Amendment is a cornerstone of our freedoms, and no administration should wield the power to monitor lawful firearm ownership.

Taking on Waste and Restoring Accountability

Last week in the House Oversight Committee, we took a major step toward reigning in Washington’s bloated bureaucracy by establishing the DOGE Subcommittee as part of the 119th Congress rules package. This subcommittee will focus on investigating federal agencies plagued by waste, fraud, and abuse, ensuring taxpayers’ hard-earned dollars are spent wisely.

There’s no such thing as too many advocates for fiscal responsibility, yet some in Washington continue to block these necessary reforms. These obstructionists are the real “duplicates” in our system, standing in the way of streamlining government and delivering results for the American people.

With the rules package passed, we wasted no time addressing another pressing issue: the surge of remote federal work since COVID-19. The numbers don’t lie—productivity and accountability to taxpayers have declined, even as remote work has ballooned. It’s time for federal employees to return to the office and focus on serving the American people effectively.

The message is clear: Washington must work for the people, not itself.

In the Media

I joined Breitbart Daily News, Newsmax, and OANN to discuss DOGE, President Trump’s Nominees, and provide an update on reconciliation conversations.
