Fox News ([link removed]) (1/24/25) reports: "The premier of a key oil region in Canada is open to talking with President Donald Trump about reopening the Keystone Pipeline, which, according to experts, could strengthen energy security and affordability. Danielle Smith, the premier of Alberta, Canada, said on Tuesday that she was interested in talking to the Trump administration about potentially reopening the Keystone XL oil pipeline – a system that was designed to carry oil from Alberta to the U.S. through to states like Illinois, Texas and Oklahoma."

(1/23/25) reports: "President Donald Trump said on Thursday the United States would guarantee supplies of liquefied natural gas to Europe, even amid worries that the booming export industry could boost prices of gas for U.S. consumers. TotalEnergies CEO Patrick Pouyanne asked Trump, who was speaking remotely at the World Economic Forum on Thursday in Davos, Switzerland, what he would do if expected growth in U.S. LNG projects boosted the domestic gas price. He also asked Trump if he would agree to guarantee security of LNG supplies to Europe, which is reducing its dependency on gas from Russia. 'I would make sure that you get it,' Trump said, adding that he is looking at speeding up permits for LNG projects even after the U.S. became the world's top exporter of the super-chilled form of natural gas in 2023 under his predecessor."
Thermal runway is a persistent problem...that's an understatement.

(1/27/25) reports: "A fire at California's Moss Landing Energy Storage Facility exposed risks tied to lithium-ion battery storage, sparking debates over its role in the clean energy transition. The rapid growth of renewable energy has brought energy storage technologies, particularly batteries, into the spotlight as essential tools to balance power supply and demand. Lithium-ion batteries, the industry standard, have fueled much of this expansion thanks to their high energy density and efficiency. But they also carry risks — thermal runaway, the process by which batteries overheat and catch fire, is a persistent problem."
How about we just let the market decide what it wants?

(1/23/25) reports: "As promised, President Donald Trump began reversing the country's energy policies his first day in office with a spate of orders largely favoring oil, gas and coal. But there is one renewable energy that did find favor: geothermal. Energy experts say that makes sense — geothermal energy makes electricity 24/7. Many people working in the field came from the oil and gas industry and they use much of the same technology for drilling wells. Trump strongly supports and gets support from the oil and gas industry. And there's bipartisan support in Congress for geothermal."
