Dear Georgian,

President Trump delivered on his promises to America and signed critical executive orders last week to secure our border by declaring a National Emergency at the border and restoring key policies like Remain in Mexico. I applaud President Trump for swift action to restore border security, and we will work in Congress to pass additional legislation to aid his efforts to protect our country.

Also, the deadline to apply for FEMA assistance after Hurricane Helene is February 7th. You can apply for FEMA assistance online at DisasterAssistance.gov, by using the FEMA App, or by calling toll-free 800-621-3362.

As always, my staff and I are here to help. If you need assistance with a federal agency or have comments or concerns to share with me, please do not hesitate to call my Warner Robins, Tifton, or Washington, D.C. offices. I encourage you to visit my website, like my Facebook page, follow me on YouTube, and follow me on X.

Sending the Laken Riley Act to President Trump

I had the honor of joining the Georgia Republican Delegation watching Speaker Mike Johnson sign the Laken Riley Act, which now heads to President Trump's desk to be signed into law.

This bipartisan legislation will protect American communities by requiring Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to issue detainers and take custody of illegal aliens who commit theft, burglary, larceny, and shoplifting offenses.

Passing the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act

Last week, the House passed the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act, which provides life-saving care to babies who survive an attempted abortion.

This legislation imposes strong criminal penalties for those who fail to provide care to children who survive an attempted abortion or report non-compliance.

I was proud to cosponsor and vote for this legislation, which now heads to the Senate.

Passing the Fix Our Forests Act

Active forest management techniques and a focus on forest health are needed in our country now more than ever. According to the U.S. Forest Service, more than one billion acres of forest land are at risk of wildfire. Unfortunately, nearly one-fifth of all land overseen by the Federal government is at high or very high risk of wildfire.

This is a result of a buildup of bureaucratic red tape, burdensome regulations, and frivolous litigation that have prevented forest management activities like thinning, prescribed burns, and mechanical treatment.

Last week, the House passed the bipartisan Fix Our Forest Act, which marks a return to active forest management and resilience to overgrown, fire-prone forested lands.

Fox News | Congress sends Laken Riley Act to Trump's desk as first bill of GOP's Washington takeover

"The Republican Party's Laken Riley Act is heading to President Donald Trump’s desk to become the first bill he signs into law after the party retook both chambers of Congress and the White House.

The House of Representatives passed the bill in a 263 to 156 vote on Wednesday, the second time the lower chamber advanced the bill this month.

It passed the House 264 to 159 on Jan. 7. All voting Republicans supported the bill, along with 48 Democrats – two more than the most recent vote."
