Hi John,
We have great news to share: the Government has decided to move responsibility for ‘youth’ and youth work to the newly reconfigured Department of Education and Youth. Minister Helen McEntee has been announced as the Minister for this Department. This is a major milestone, placing youth and youth work at the heart of the next government. It’s a strong signal that the Government is listening to the voices of young people, youth workers, and advocates like you
John.
We want to take a moment to sincerely thank you for every petition signed and every email sent. Each action contributed to the momentum of this campaign, which has led to a successful outcome. You have made a real difference.
While we celebrate progress made, there’s more to be done:
* We’re urging the Government to appoint a Junior Minister for Youth, establish a Cabinet Sub-Committee for Youth, and create an Oireachtas Committee for Youth.
* We’re calling for clarity on the implementation of the National Strategy for Youth Work, ensuring it remains central to the Programme for Government.
This step forward is a big win, but we’ll continue to advocate for the resources and recognition youth work needs to thrive. Together, we’ll hold the Government to account and make sure this new Department delivers real, positive outcomes for young people and youth workers.
Thank you again John,
Mary
