Friends,

While I was on patrol as a Marine in Iraq, while my brothers and I were in combat, while my friends were being wounded and killed… I never would’ve expected that nearly 20 years later I’d have to be ready to fight to defend our democracy on the floor of the House of Representatives.

And as I stood on the House floor on January 6th, teaching my colleagues how to use gas masks, texting my staff on where to hide and how to keep safe, getting ready to defend myself… I never would have thought that the people who stormed the Capitol that day, who violently assaulted police officers, would go free two years later.

But on his first day in office, President Trump pardoned and commuted sentences for every single one of the January 6th rioters. We’re talking about people who came in with guns, zip ties, people who beat cops and left them battered and bleeding.

It’s a gross misuse of power, and I understand if it’s left you worried about what comes next.

Here’s something I believe, though: This country is stronger than the actions of any one person, even the president. And if we stick together, we’ll make it through this.

I’ve always been lucky to have friends, family, and a community that had my back. I would not have been able to build a life for myself without them. I would not have gotten into Harvard, or survived Iraq without them.

I am serving in the United States Senate to deliver for them — and for you.

If you’re with me, it’d mean a lot if you could chip in $5 or $10 to my campaign. We’ve got a lot of work to do to fight back, and donations like this are how we keep up the pressure.

Thanks for sticking with me.

Semper Fi,

Ruben
