Email from Rep Feenstra In this week's roundup: Sarah's Law passes the House of Representatives and the seventh video of my Farm Bill breakdown series. Dear Friend, In this week's roundup: Sarah's Law passes the House of Representatives and the seventh video of my Farm Bill Breakdown series. That and more – remember to follow my Facebook page by clicking here and my Twitter page by clicking here to stay up-to-date throughout the week! MY SARAH'S LAW PASSES HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES AND HAS BEEN SENT TO PRESIDENT TRUMP FOR HIS SIGNATURE After years of advocacy, I am thrilled that Sarah’s Law was included in the Laken Riley Act, which passed the House of Representatives and is now headed to President Trump’s desk for his signature. Nearly a decade ago, 21-year-old Sarah Root’s life was tragically cut short when she was killed by an illegal immigrant who was driving while drunk. Instead of answering for his crimes, the illegal immigrant posted bail, was released from jail, and never seen again. Sarah’s Law not only delivers justice for the Root family but also ensures that any illegal immigrant who harms or kills an American citizen is swiftly detained and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. With President Trump in the White House, we will continue to secure our border, build the wall, and combat heinous crimes committed by illegal immigrants. Iowa Republicans get 'Sarah's Law' honoring Sarah Root included in Laken Riley Act The Iowans' push stems from the 2016 death of Sarah Root, a Council Bluffs resident who was killed by an undocumented immigrant driving drunk. Read More WE MUST PREVENT THESE AVOIDABLE TRAGEDIES On Wednesday night, after we passed the Laken Riley Act, which included Sarah’s Law, I called Sarah’s mother, Michelle Root, to tell her the good news. Because of Michelle’s advocacy and perseverance in the face of unthinkable tragedy, Sarah’s Law will be signed into law and save lives. These funds will help get students back in the classroom sooner, and I look forward to seeing Spencer Community Schools fully reopen soon.
