"State launches panel to study climate implications of pension system investments" - Maryland Matters
In December, the Maryland State Retirement and Pension System Board of Trustees took a big step toward safeguarding our pension dollars from the risk that climate change poses to our portfolio of assets by voting to become the second state in the country to create a Climate Advisory Council!
Climate change presents an ongoing threat to life in Maryland, both physically and financially, as well as to the long-term returns in our portfolio of assets. This group will advise the board and investment staff on climate change risks and opportunities and work to ensure that our pension system continues to grow and thrive so we have the dollars promised for our state and educator retirees.
I’m proud to have led this effort. In the new year, I look forward to continuing to work with the Climate Advisory Council and all of our partners to build a more sustainable fund and future.
My best,
Brooke
