As Pelosi blocks healthcare during a pandemic, our campaign is the only way to force her hand.

John,

A few days ago, I had the chance to join San Francisco Chronicle senior political writer Joe Garofoli on his podcast, It’s All Political.

We talked about a lot of issues, from my family’s immigration story to what rhymes with Pelosi. Joe also asked me about healthcare policy—and I was so glad he did.

There’s a pandemic going on. And healthcare is a basic human right, recognized as such in the rest of the industrialized world.

Can you help our campaign to make universal healthcare a reality in the U.S.?

Insisting on for-profit healthcare has always been vicious. There’s no good reason that—unique to the United States—we have to have public policy that force sick people into the street after exhausting their life savings.

In an era of contagious pandemic, the case for universal healthcare becomes even stronger. People left untreated are at greater risk of contracting the virus—and of transmitting it to others, including you & your family. That’s why we all share an interest in everyone having healthcare.

Even a purely narcissistic, blindly selfish individual—like our criminal president, for instance—should understand that letting any person go untreated puts everyone else at risk.

I’ve long been committed to single-payer universal healthcare. But under these circumstances, it’s a no-brainer.

So why does my opponent, Nancy Pelosi, continue to block it?

And why has none of the several COVID-19 relief bills included even a temporary expansion of healthcare to allow people to get free treatment or medicine?

We know the answer: Pelosi supports the policy priorities of insurance and pharmaceutical companies.

Can you help expand our campaign to win a new voice for San Francisco in Congress?

Pelosi even included a provision in the recently drafted HEROES Act to reclassify the corporate lobbying firms representing those industries as small businesses. She proposed government loans for corporate lawyers, which they’ll then use to rig the laws against working people even more.

Meanwhile, people are sick and dying alone by the tens of thousands. Hospitals in many areas are being overwhelmed.

We need politicians to do the right thing, and put the interests of patients before the demands of the insurance and pharma industries. The 100,000 victims here in U.S. could be just the beginning.

Their families are counting on us to replace Pelosi in the House. And we’re counting on you.
