Rep. Miller-Meeks: Why I’m Joining the DOGE Caucus

As a Member of Congress, I have a responsibility to protect the hard-earned tax dollars of the people I represent. That’s why I’m excited to announce my membership in the Bipartisan DOGE Caucus—a new effort aimed at tackling the pervasive waste, fraud, and inefficiencies plaguing our federal government.

Our national debt has now surpassed a staggering $36 trillion, an astronomical figure that threatens the financial stability of our country. The U.S. government currently borrows roughly $1.5 trillion per year just to maintain its operations. Meanwhile, in 2024, the Government Accountability Office (GAO) reported that federal agencies had made over $2.7 trillion in improper payments since 2003. These payments are a direct result of inefficient and outdated government systems, which fail to prioritize accountability and proper oversight.

For everyday Iowans, and Americans across the country, this wasteful spending is more than just a statistic—it’s a problem they feel in their wallets. People are living paycheck to paycheck, doing everything they can to make ends meet. Yet, only in Washington, in a status quo budget considered a “cut”, mostly by unelected bureaucrats and the media.

The DOGE Caucus, in partnership with President Trump’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), seeks to curb this reckless spending and improve the effectiveness of our federal agencies. Led by Elon Musk, we will work closely with them to bring fresh perspectives and real solutions to the table. With their leadership and expertise in business efficiency, we are well-positioned to tackle the long-standing issues within the federal bureaucracy.

Our goal is clear: we want to streamline government operations, ensure taxpayer dollars are spent responsibly, and reduce the bloated bureaucracy that makes it harder for Americans to thrive. We have a responsibility to future generations to rein in the national debt and ensure that our government functions in a way that serves the people, not itself.

Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds has also announced her support for this initiative and will form a state-level DOGE effort. Her leadership highlights that the push for government reform and fiscal responsibility is gaining momentum nationwide, with state and federal efforts working together to prioritize efficiency and accountability.

By joining the DOGE Caucus, I am committing to working tirelessly with my colleagues to advance common-sense reforms that will save taxpayer money and build a more efficient government for everyone, delivering services more effectively. The time for action is now, and together, we can turn the tide on wasteful spending and put our nation back on a path to fiscal responsibility.

The Weekly Wrap

Here's the Weekly Wrap from Washington DC!

The Inauguration of President Donald J. Trump & Vice President JD Vance

We kicked off our week in Washington with the historic Inauguration of President Trump and Vice President JD Vance. I was proud to congratulate them both on the House Floor!

The best part of Inauguration weekend was undoubtedly having so many patriotic Iowans in town! It was great meeting with so constituents in our nation's capital. Together, we're ready to take back our country.

Key Votes

We voted to pass the Laken Riley Act, which includes a piece of legislation I'm proud to have cosponsored called Sarah's Law. This law mandates that ICE detain illegal aliens who commit murder or cause severe harm to someone in the U.S. The bill is now headed to President Trump's desk.

The passage of H.R. 471 – the Fix Our Forests Act – is a major victory for wildfire prevention and forest restoration. In the wake of devastating wildfires in California, this bill will streamline restoration efforts, protect communities, and support our firefighters.

Biological males should NOT be allowed in women’s sports. It’s common sense! Proud to stand up and vote for the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act — making sure ONLY biological women can compete in women’s sports. This is about fairness, integrity, and protecting our daughters.

I voted for the Preventing Violence Against Women by Illegal Aliens Act because illegal immigrants committing sex crimes or domestic violence should be DEPORTED, not released into our communities. 145 Democrats voted against it.

Committee Hearings

I attended the Ways & Means Committee Member Day hearing to outline my tax priorities for the 119th Congress.

I questioned VA officials in a key Veterans' Affairs Committee hearing on access to quality care.

In an Energy & Commerce Environmental Subcommittee hearing, I spoke on the legacy and impact of the Chemical Safety for the 21st Century Act

I attended a Communications & Technology subcommittee hearing.

Floor Speeches

I had the privilege of honoring Clara Petersen, a remarkable woman from West Branch, Iowa, who recently turned 100, on the House Floor. Her service in WWII and the love she’s shown her family are a true testament to strength and heart. What an inspiration!

I am proud to have earned an A+ on the

Sincerely,

Dr. Mariannette Miller-Meeks
