He’s been quick to publicly criticize any form of assistance going to environmental causes or disadvantaged communities…but behind the scenes, Mike Johnson quietly urged the EPA to award the very same grant money to his own district in Louisiana.
Say it isn’t so, Speaker Johnson!
Time and time again, the GOP has shown their hypocrisy when it comes to environmental funding. Red states and districts have been among the top recipients of grants from the Inflation Reduction Act, and Republicans have touted this funding to their districts – yet, in public they relentlessly attack the IRA.
Republicans are caught in a Catch-22 – either they support environmental funding and lose political points, or they oppose it to the detriment of their own constituents’ daily lives. But our SEEC members don’t resort to hypocrisy: they are proud to put their names behind the Inflation Reduction Act and all pro-climate legislation.
But now, Trump and Republicans in Congress have threatened to cut funding for environmental programs like the one Mike Johnson quietly applied for. They are willing to cut off their own nose just to spite their faces.
Thanks to your help in 2024, SEEC PAC was able to re-elect over 95% of our pro-environment members to the U.S. House of Representatives — defying the odds on a night where Democrats lost seats. Now we are counting on you to help our SEEC members pass climate, clean energy and environmental justice policies in the 119th Congress while we continue fighting for a sustainable future.
