Dear John,

The Trump administration needs to hear from you now! It is about to finalize a Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) rule that would protect religious freedom and conscience rights, ensure the non-politicization of the medical profession, and prioritize patient care.

The Obama administration issued regulations on Section 1557 of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) defining "sex" in the context of "sex discrimination" to include "gender identity" and "the termination of pregnancy." Defining sex in this way means that doctors could be required to ignore the biological realities of sex and perform "gender transition" procedures against their conscience! In addition, federal financial assistance could be conditioned on the promotion and performance of acts that violate the sanctity of human life - the Obama rule could also require abortion provision, coverage, and referrals!

Recognizing that HHS had exceeded its authority, a federal judge issued an injunction to prevent the Obama administration rule from taking effect. Nevertheless, the rule remains in place.

Now, President Trump plans to clean up this mess and protect religious freedom! His new rule will protect the convictions of those in the medical community who want to hold to their religious beliefs and consciences about the biological understanding of sex while caring for their patients.

Yet the Left wants to stop this new rule from taking effect! Please let President Trump know you are thankful for his defense of religious liberty, and that you support the finalization of this new rule without delay!

Dear President Trump:

I am writing to support the finalization of the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) rule (RIN: 0945-AA11) proposed last year regarding Section 1557 of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA). This rule would protect religious freedom and conscience rights, ensure the non-politicization of the medical profession, and prioritize patient care, and I therefore urge this rule's swift finalization.

This rule is great news for patients and the health care community alike. In 2016, under the Obama administration, HHS issued regulations on Section 1557 of the ACA defining "sex" in the context of "sex discrimination" to incorporate "gender identity" and "the termination of pregnancy." Health care institutions sued, contending that the heavy hand of government was forcing them to violate their conscience and threatening their ability to operate. Recognizing that HHS had exceeded its authority, a federal judge issued an injunction to prevent the Obama administration rule from taking effect.

Now, HHS is proposing a fantastic new rule to fix these problems. It will protect the convictions of those in the medical community who want to hold to their religious beliefs and consciences about the biological understanding of sex while caring for their patients.

Your HHS rule is also pro-life and will ensure that medical professionals' consciences will be protected. The inclusion of "termination of pregnancy" in the Obama administration rule could be interpreted as requiring abortion provision, coverage, and referrals. Thus, removing this language is important to ensuring that pro-life medical professionals can follow their convictions.

I thank you for defending religious liberty. This HHS rule should be finalized promptly so that long-running conscience and religious freedom concerns in this area can finally be put to rest.
