Pregnant women do not stop going into labor when disaster strikes. That’s why we provide women with Emergency Birth Kits.
These kits contain items like gloves, a razor, and a tarp — so that even amidst war, violence, and uncertainty, women can safely give birth and prevent infection.
You can make a measurable difference in the lives of new mothers in the most dangerous parts of the world by sponsoring Emergency Birth Kits. Will you deliver the gift of lifesaving care to mothers and their newborns around the world?
In Ethiopia, Embet survived the crossfire of unrest throughout the Tigray and Amhara regions but lost her house, cattle, and income in the conflict. She was pregnant and lacked resources and support, but luckily, Embet received a UNFPA Emergency Birth Kit so she could safely give birth no matter where she was. Today, she is still displaced but both Embet and her baby are healthy.

Natasha was 7 months pregnant when war broke out in Ukraine, and within three days of the invasion, she knew she had to make the difficult decision to leave her home. She boarded a crowded train, took a taxi, and walked 12 hours in freezing temperatures to reach a center for displaced people in Moldova where she too received an Emergency Birth Kit from UNFPA. If anything were to happen to the center or nearby health facilities, Natasha would still have what she needed to give birth safely.

Embet and Natasha are far from the only women whose pregnancy has been disrupted by conflict in these regions. Every day, more than 800 women will die from preventable pregnancy and childbirth complications.
We remain on the ground in these areas distributing lifesaving care like Emergency Birth Kits. You can be there too. Will you make a gift to deliver Emergency Birth Kits to women in crisis settings?
Thank you for being there.
