Hi Friend,
My name is Kat Ricketts and I’m the Solar Community Coordinator at Ohio Citizen Action. I help to promote utility-scale solar at the local level in rural communities.
Having grown up in a small Ohio town as the granddaughter of a corn and soybean farmer, I’ve seen first-hand the intricate connection between people and the land. Those roots deeply shaped my perspective on sustainability and the environment, and I draw from those values in the work I do each day.
For communities like the one I grew up in (the same one I still have the privilege of working in today!), utility-scale solar projects can be transformative, offering economic stability and environmental benefits that extend for generations. By harnessing the power of the sun, we can provide clean, affordable energy while creating new income streams for landowners and reducing reliance on fossil fuels.
At Ohio Citizen Action, my work focuses on educating and fostering understanding. I’m passionate about this work because I believe in the power of rallying communities to create meaningful change and a better world.
Part of my job is to share good news about solar energy and help to dispel misinformation. I have worked with members of the community to set up facebook groups and instagram pages. I just launched these community pages. Follow our solar work and join conversations with local farmers and residents:

There is tremendous community support in Fairfield County. Public comments on the Eastern Cottontail project have exceeded all previous Ohio Power Siting Board records and just last week the OPSB staff recommended to approve the project <[link removed]>. This is great news for the public hearing tomorrow.
I have the unique opportunity to honor my family’s agricultural legacy while paving the way for a brighter future for all Ohioans. I’m proud to be part of a movement that’s making a tangible difference in people’s lives and the health of our planet.
With Hope,
Kat Ricketts, Solar Community Coordinator
