Two days before Trump took office, 75,000 people took to the streets to make it known that no matter who is in the oval office, we will keep fighting for our future.

We made important progress under President Biden to protect clean air and water, address environmental injustices, and invest in climate action and clean energy. Now, billionaires and Republicans are trying to gut these programs.

But with slim majorities in Congress and some Republicans supporting these climate action and clean energy policies, we have a real shot at defending them. We’re going all out to put pressure on our representatives, and the next few days and weeks are crucial as Republicans negotiate over what programs to cut.

With Trump in office, a lot of us are asking: What now?

The most dangerous thing we can imagine is for our movement to stop speaking up. To retreat into inaction, give into feeling overwhelmed, and believe the lie that everyday people can't do anything to make change.

We're launching monthly virtual Climate Action Hours where you can show up from wherever you are, get key updates on the latest climate and environmental news, and take meaningful action. RSVP for the first one on January 29.

Already, the cracks in Trump's administration are showing. Republicans in the House have the slimmest majority – meaning that they will need every last vote to advance their pro-fossil fuel agenda. We have a real shot at peeling off some Republicans who have seen the benefits of climate action, clean energy, and environmental protection in their home districts. Clean energy is popular across blue and red states – it's reducing climate pollution and creating good jobs, while saving everyday people money on energy costs.

If our Members of Congress hear from enough of their constituents that we want them to preserve climate and clean energy programs, we can do our part to stopping drastic cuts to programs our people and communities rely on. We're going to spend the next few months putting as much pressure on them as we can by calling their offices, posting on their social media pages, getting the media involved, and more.

At the national level, progress on climate is clearly not looking good. We're up against rising authoritarianism and an administration beholden to corporate polluters who are padding their pockets while we pay the price. But despair isn't an option, because the stakes are too high.

The only way to stop climate disasters from getting stronger and more deadly each year is by working together through individual, collective, corporate, and government action. The best antidote to despair is action, and the time to act is now.
