National Domestic Workers Alliance

Dear Parents, Guardians & Grandparents,

We know many of you have been working triple duty — working, parenting, and home schooling — in the face of a global pandemic. I feel you - my ten month old has been home with me.

You might be thinking about in-home childcare for the first time since the crisis started now that states and cities are reopening -- but of course the coronavirus pandemic is not over.

Chances are that both you and your nanny or babysitter are feeling nervous about how to stay safe. We can help!

NDWA has developed a simple checklist to help you, including tips focused on:

✔️ Creating an open line of communication with your nanny
✔️ Supporting collective safety in the home
✔️ Making fair agreements
✔️Planning for the worst case scenario

Caregiving during COVID

This pandemic has left us all feeling overwhelmed and uncertain in a way we've never felt before. It has reminded us that the everyday burdens, big and small, shouldn't be shouldered alone.

It's up to all of us to ensure that we get through this crisis safely. As we start to invite folks back into our homes, let's create a new normal in our homes that is safe and healthy for all.

Thanks for all you do,
Kristina Mevs-Apgar, Culture Change Director
