Friend,
Nothing has been more heartbreaking than to watch communities throughout Southern California burn to the ground in this month’s wildfires. It’s nothing short of devastating.
Jane and I are thinking of and praying for all of the families who’ve lost their homes or their loved ones in the past few weeks. I also want to extend our utmost gratitude to the brave firefighters and first responders who have risked their lives to keep our communities safe.
Here in DC, I’m fighting hard to ensure that Southern California receives the aid necessary to rebuild from these disasters… with no conditions or no political strings attached. Full stop.
That’s why I introduced an amendment this week to the misleadingly named “Fix Our Forests Act” to call for federal wildfire and disaster aid to be delivered to California with no political conditions – just the same way we’ve done with every other natural disaster. But House Republicans unanimously voted against my amendment.
Californians — and Americans — have always come together in moments of unspeakable tragedy. Here at home, the response to the fires has been no different.
I’ve been blown away by the number of folks asking me: “What can I do? How can I step up?”
Well, if you are in a place to chip in a few dollars, I wanted to pass along the donation link to the California Community Foundation Wildfire Relief Fund. Any amount you pitch in will go directly to supporting impacted families and communities in the greater Los Angeles region.
It’s been heartening to see folks step up over the last few weeks, so if you’re able, I hope you’ll consider donating a few dollars to the California Community Foundation Wildfire Relief Fund to fuel short and long-term relief and recovery efforts.
Thank you for considering,
Dave
