John,
Trump is back in office and once again, he and the Postmaster General he appointed―Louis DeJoy―are trying to privatize the United States Postal Service (USPS).
During DeJoy’s term as Postmaster General, there have been five rate increases and mail centers have been closed and consolidated, leading to USPS jobs being slashed and mail delivery being slowed.1
All of this was done on purpose thanks to DeJoy’s disastrous 10-year restructuring plan which was supposed to increase USPS’ profits, but has instead done the exact opposite, leading the USPS to have a $6.5 billion net loss for FY2023.2
The Postal Service is a lifeline to people living in rural and Indigenous communities. From medications and Social Security checks to voting by mail, communities across the country rely on the USPS every day. Privatizing the Postal Service would hurt rural communities the most because―unlike UPS and FedEx―the USPS is required by law to deliver all mail to all regions at a flat rate.
The closing of mail processing centers and the reduction of USPS staff will hit these―and Black and Latino communities―the hardest.
We stopped Trump’s last privatization push in 2018 with an overwhelming, bipartisan public outcry. But this time, the stakes are higher.
Send a direct message to Congress telling them: Do NOT privatize the USPS now or ever.
SIGN AND SEND
The USPS isn’t just a service; it’s a promise to every American. That’s why Republicans and Democrats came together in 2022 to pass the Postal Service Reform Act with overwhelming bipartisan support.
There was a temporary reprieve of the closures of USPS processing centers last year when Congress forced DeJoy to pause the closures to help protect vote-by-mail in an election year.
But now, the reprieve is over and the new administration is set on tearing down America’s institutions. DeJoy can’t cut his way out of debt. Providing less and doing it slower is not a model for success. Privatization leads to the selling off of critical assets and closing locations. It doesn’t have to be this way.
Join us in calling on Congress to save the USPS and reject privatization.
Thank you for all you do,
