Representative Adriano Espaillat Commemorates the Birth of Juan Pablo Duarte with Speech on the U.S. House Floor

NEW YORK, NY -- Today, Representative Adriano Espaillat (NY-13) issued the following statement in recognition of Juan Pablo Duarte Day, commemorating the birth of one of the founding fathers of the Dominican Republic:

"Today, we pause to honor Juan Pablo Duarte, the founding father of the Dominican Republic,” said Rep. Espaillat. "Juan Pablo Duarte was instrumental in the War of Dominican Independence, and he fought for a liberal democracy after the founding of the nation. Each year, I have had to pleasure of introducing a resolution that which supports the ideals of Juan Pablo Duarte, and I look forward to continuing this tradition. This is one of several bills that I will introduce to mark the beginning of Dominican Heritage Month to honor the Dominican American community in my district and across the country."

Juan Pablo Duarte is hailed as the foremost of the founding fathers of the Dominican Republic.

Representative Espaillat is the first Dominican American to serve in the U.S. House of Representatives and his congressional district includes Harlem, East Harlem, West Harlem, Hamilton Heights, Washington Heights, Inwood, Marble Hill and the north-west Bronx. First elected to Congress in 2016, Representative Espaillat is serving his fifth term in Congress. Representative Espaillat currently serves as a member of the influential U.S. House Committee on Appropriations responsible for funding the federal government’s vital activities and serves as Ranking Member of the Legislative Branch Subcommittee of the committee during the 119th Congress. NEW YORK, NY – Hoy, el congresista Adriano Espaillat (NY-13) emitió la siguiente declaración en reconocimiento del Día de Juan Pablo Duarte, que conmemora el natalicio de uno de los padres fundadores de la República Dominicana:

"Hoy hacemos una pausa para honrar a Juan Pablo Duarte, el padre fundador de la República Dominicana", dijo el Rep. Espaillat. "Juan Pablo Duarte fue fundamental en la Guerra de la Independencia Dominicana y luchó por una democracia liberal después de la fundación de la nación. Cada año, he tenido el placer de presentar una resolución que respalda los ideales de Juan Pablo Duarte y espero continuar con esta tradición. Este es uno de los varios proyectos de ley que introduciré para marcar el comienzo del Mes de la Herencia Dominicana a fin de honrar a la comunidad domínico-estadounidense en mi distrito y en todo el país".
