Mo Brooks, a one-time Trump ally and die-hard MAGA firebrand, savaged the president in an interview, calling the convicted felon the "most dishonest elected official that the public has ever had to interact with." Brooks, a founding member of the hard-right Freedom Caucus, was famously a major backer of Trump’s roundly debunked claims that the 2020 presidential election was stolen, but has weirdly and emphatically changed his tune on the newly elected president, noting, "[T]he paradox with Donald Trump is he seems to make dishonest statements just for the fun of it, as a challenge to see if anybody has the gumption or the wherewithal to take him to task for the dishonest statements he makes. He sees it as a game and he’s winning it." When asked if he thought anyone on Capitol Hill was seriously willing to criticize Trump, Brooks answered, "A lot of Democrats. No Republicans." The Trump administration is issuing a new round of heavy-handed measures that could rapidly deport immigrants who entered the United States through recently established legal pathways, according to an internal Department of Homeland Security memo obtained The New York Times. The directive grants ICE officials unprecedented authority to expedite deportations for immigrants who entered the country with government authorization through two key Biden-era programs. These programs, which have allowed more than a million immigrants to enter the country since 2023, had provided scheduling for migrants or asylum seekers through the government-run app CBP One or temporary legal status for up to two years through a parole program for certain countries. In no waste of time, Trump’s press secretary, Karoline Leavitt, posted on nüTwitter on Friday: "Deportation flights have begun," accompanied by official pictures of people boarding a military-style aircraft.

Local governments across US signal they won't aid Trump migrant crackdown
A growing number of cities, states, police departments, school districts, and other local governments are signaling they won't cooperate with what Trump administration officials are describing as the largest migrant deportation effort in US history. Officials with the Department of Homeland Security say they've launched efforts nationally to identify, detain, and deport far more migrants without legal status, including some allowed into the US by the Biden administration. DHS officials also say their agents are now free to conduct raids at churches and schools, canceling guidelines that made "sensitive" areas off-limits. Before President Trump took office, many local jurisdictions around the US passed measures strictly limiting cooperation with immigration authorities. The Center for Immigration Studies, which advocates for tighter restrictions on migrants entering the US, identified 13 states and more than 200 cities and counties with some form of "sanctuary" law or ordinance protecting migrants.
