Email from Tarrant County Republican Party Dustin Burrows and the Democrats do the unthinkable...   DONATE NOW to Help Win the Local Elections! The Democrats' Nuclear Option This week the Texas House took their first action after electing a Speaker, and it was to side up with Democrats and to take away the rights of the conservatives. Historically, the House has refused to quash debate and prevent members from speaking their minds on legislation. During more controversial debates, they would even allow the Democrats to filibuster for 12 hours. But this tradition of treating members equally and allowing them to participate in the House is over. Dustin Burrows - who was elected Speaker with a minority of Republicans - sent out the House rules to members at 4am with no time to thoroughly read them. When the conservative members noticed troubling changes that would empower Democrats, they did what any representative would do, and filed amendments to the rules. However, Burrows, in an unprecedented move, totally ended all amendments and debate on the rules before the conservatives were given a chance to speak. In the Texas House, you can filibuster for days over securing the border if you're a Democrat, but if you're a conservative, you won't be allowed to speak at all. Dustin Burrows has employed the nuclear option against any conservative policy. You can read more about it here. Promises Made, Promises Kept As soon as President Trump took office this week, he began signing executive orders. Working nonstop since Monday, he's taken hundreds of actions, including over 1,500 pardons for January 6th defendants, pardons for dozens of pro-life activists imprisoned by Joe Biden, and the first steps of mass deportation. Trump has already announced over a trillion dollars of new investment in the country, including $500 billion for an AI infrastructure project. Texas is receiving a large part of this investment. This project's first round of data centers will be built in Abilene. He has also signed an executive order declassifying the files for JFK, RFK, and MLK. Trump is less than one week into his term and already fulfilled countless campaign promises. At this rate, he's going to run out of promises to keep! DOGE Savings Clock There are several pieces of news in the DOGE Department. First, after rumors circulated that Vivek Ramaswamy would depart DOGE, he came out this week to announce it himself. Reports suggested that a rift had developed between Ramaswamy and DOGE staff, likely due to his pro-H-1B comments over Christmas. Second, there is now a "DOGE Clock" which you can use to track savings created by the Department. It can be found here on the US Debt Clock website. NewsMax has started a similar counter for the deportation effort. Hopefully, we can get a deportation tracker on the US Debt Clock page as well. Texans in the Trump Admin With Trump's cabinet officially taking shape, we're seeing quite a few North Texas conservatives joining the ranks. This week North Texas' own John Ratcliffe was sworn in as Trump's Director of National Intelligence. Ratcliffe took the role for a time during the first Trump administration and is starting off the second in the same role. Brooke Rollins, from America First Policy Institute, will be returning to the Trump admin after serving close to President Trump during his first term. Brooke is a Fort Worth native, whose mother, Helen Kerwin, is a newly elected conservative state representative from Somervell County, just southwest of Fort Worth. Scott Turner, a former conservative state representative from the DFW and enemy of liberal Speaker Joe Straus, is serving as Trump's Secretary of Housing and Urban Development. North Texas continues to prove itself as the conservative bastion of Texas. We're excited to see these appointees in action!
