Friend,
President Trump has wasted no time in taking action during his first week back in the White House. On his first day alone, President Trump issued roughly 1,500 pardons and commuted 14 sentences for participants in the January 6, 2021 attack on the Capitol. In many instances, this meant restoring the rights of attempted insurrectionists to purchase and possess firearms.
And for some of those pardoned, that’s exactly how they planned to celebrate their newfound freedom. The “Q-Anon Shaman,” a recognizable figure from the day who donned a fur-covered hat with horns, instantly took to social media to share his plans, saying “Thank you President Trump. Now I’m going to buy some motha f***** guns.”

And he wasn’t the only one. Another individual who received a pardon from President Trump for his role in the January 6 attack was arrested just two days later on a federal gun charge. This attitude about firearms is deeply troubling. When people who have explicitly supported violent extremism have access to guns, the consequences can be deadly.
The Capitol insurrection could not have happened without Second Amendment extremism and decades of dangerous gun lobby rhetoric. And by pardoning those involved, it further sends the message that it is okay to use violence against those who you disagree with — just as these individuals did when they attempted an insurrection causing multiple deaths and more than a hundred injuries.
Second Amendment extremism is antithetical to a functional democracy and public safety. We need to deconstruct this false “insurrectionist” interpretation of the Second Amendment. So please, [[link removed]] add your name now to join us in condemning armed extremism. [[link removed]]

Remembering Monterey Park and Half-Moon Bay Shootings
Two years ago this week, 11 people were shot and killed and nine others were injured in Monterey Park, CA, during a Lunar New Year festival. Just two days later, another shooting killed seven people and injured eight others in Half-Moon Bay, CA.
These two tragedies, so close together both in time and location, remind us of the work that still needs to be done. While the shootings were unrelated, they were connected in their impact on the area’s AAPI and LatinX communities and underscored the consequences of America’s easy access to firearms.
So, please, join us in calling on Congress to pass this legislation and listen to our podcast on how to support victims and survivors of gun violence. [[link removed]]

Honoring With Action: 31st Annual MLK Vigil and Day of Action

Brady and Team ENOUGH advocates lobbying for gun safety at the Virginia State Capitol
On Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Brady and Team ENOUGH, our youth-led initiative, joined a coalition of gun violence prevention groups for the 31st annual MLK Vigil and Day of Action in Virginia. We gathered at the State Capitol to honor Martin Luther King Jr. and all those impacted by gun violence.
Throughout the day, we had dozens of meetings with senators and delegates, sharing how gun violence has affected Virginians and what can be done to reduce gun violence in the state.
We advocated for legislation to regulate ghost guns, ban assault weapons, mandate safe firearm storage in the home, and more. It was a productive day for advocates, as they came together to promote peace in their community and honor Martin Luther King Jr. with action.

Team ENOUGH, Brady’s youth-led initiative, just opened applications for its Youth Advocacy Training Program in Washington, D.C., California, and Florida! Our program is the only national, youth-led group that trains and mobilizes young people to meet with lawmakers and push for critical gun reform measures.
Will you consider sharing our application with a young person (ages 13-26) and encourage them to apply today? With gun violence as the leading cause of death for American youth, it’s vital for lawmakers to hear directly from young people on this issue. [[link removed]]
