Looking forward to seeing you in Georgia's 11th Congressional District or in Washington, D.C. soon. | Rep. Barry Loudermilk U.S. Congressman, Georgia's Eleventh District | Celebrating President Trump's Inauguration | This week, I had the distinct privilege of attending President Trump's inauguration and witnessing the peaceful transition of power. President Trump and Vice President Vance officially took their oaths of office formally beginning their term. President Trump outlined an optimistic, strong, and unifying vision for our great country. It marked the return to an era of limited government, individual liberty and the restoration of a nation that is free, safe, and full of opportunity. We have a busy and exciting four years ahead, and I'm ready to continue the work! | Continuing our Efforts to Uncover the Full Truth about Jan. 6 | This week, Speaker Mike Johnson, House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (OH-4), and I announced the establishment of a new select subcommittee for the 119th Congress to continue our investigation into all events leading up to and after January 6, 2021. I will be Chair of this new effort, and it will exist as a Select Subcommittee of the House Judiciary Committee. Composition and other details regarding the Select Subcommittee will be released soon. I appreciate Speaker Johnson's commitment to our work, and I am looking forward to working with Chairman Jordan to continue uncovering all the facts and begin the arduous work of making needed reforms to ensure this level of security failure never happens again. Rebuilding that trust and reforming the federal government must begin with a dedicated, efficient and committed workforce. That's why, this week, I reintroduced my legislation, the Modern Employment Reform, Improvement, and Transformation (MERIT) Act to hold inefficient, corrupt government bureaucrats accountable. This critical legislation would create a more efficient and effective government that works for the benefit of the American people. It would restructure the federal employment code by modeling employee dismissal with that of the private sector, and lessen the time it takes to root out misconduct and poor performers. I am also encouraged that the mission of President Trump, Elon Musk, and the new Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) will compliment MERIT, and I look forward to working with them and my colleagues to get it passed in the U.S. House. You can read more about the MERIT Act here, as well as an exclusive article in Fox News Digital. | Our Votes This Week - Critical Legislation to Ensure Justice for Laken Riley's Family, Improve Resiliency Against Wildfires, and Support Human Dignity | During this week's House session, I voted for legislation to ensure justice for Laken Riley, increase resiliency to catastrophic wildfires, and protect our most fundamental right – the right to life. The top bills are as follows: - S. 5 – Laken Riley Act – Sen. Katie Britt (R-AL)
- This Senate-amended legislation would require Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to arrest and detain illegal immigrants who commit theft offenses, assault law enforcement officers, and commit crimes resulting in death or serious bodily injury to another individual. Additionally, it ensures states can hold future administrations accountable for radical, far-left immigration enforcement and open-border policies.
- H.R. 471 – Fix Our Forests Act – Rep. Bruce Westerman (AR-4)
- This comprehensive legislation increases resiliency to catastrophic wildfires by simplifying and expediting environmental reviews, coordinating resources for communities, and reducing frivolous lawsuits that delay forest management projects.
- H.R. 21 – Born Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act – Rep. Ann Wagner (MO-2)
- This critical legislation protects our most fundamental right – the right to life – by ensuring that infants born alive after an attempted abortion receive the same standard of care as any other newborn.
| Rep. Loudermilk Co-sponsors Key Legislation During Presidential Inauguration Week | This week, I co-sponsored several pieces of legislation during the week of the presidential inauguration. These bills are as follows: - H.R. 692 – China Exchange Rate Transparency Act
- Directs the United States Executive Director at the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to advocate for enhanced transparency in China's exchange rate arrangements.
- Calls for stricter IMF oversight of China's compliance with its commitments under the IMF's Articles of Agreement, including orderly exchange rate arrangements and the avoidance of manipulation.
- H.R. 643 – Federal Insurance Office Elimination Act
- Returns sole regulatory authority over the insurance industry to the states by abolishing the U.S. Department of the Treasury's Federal Insurance Office (FIO).
- H.R. 703 – Main Street Tax Certainty Act
- Permanently extends Section 199A of the Internal Revenue Code, which is slated to expire at the end of this year.
- This tax provision allows pass-through businesses (such as independent contractors and 9/10 small businesses) to deduct up to 20% of qualified business income from their annual tax liability.
- H.R. 551 – Make the Migrant Protection Protocols Mandatory Act
- Reinstates President Trump's "Remain in Mexico" policy making it permanent.
- This bill lays the groundwork to restore law and order and secure our border by federally mandating that those awaiting an immigration court hearing date to do so from their country of origin.
- H.R. 22 – Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act
- Requires states to obtain proof of citizenship – in person – before registering an individual to vote for a Federal election.
- Requires states to remove non-citizens from existing voter rolls, while giving them the necessary tools to do so.
| Rep. Loudermilk Joins Letter to President Trump Requesting Immediate Nomination of Presidential Envoy for Abraham Accords | This week, I joined over 45 Members of Congress in sending a letter to President Donald Trump requesting he immediately nominate a Presidential Envoy for the Abraham Accords. Since the creation of the position in December 2023, now-former President Biden had left the role open, and the State Department admitted there was never even a short list of candidates for the position.
