“No matter your political beliefs or how you feel about the current administration, one thing must be made clear to all of us … real young people’s lives are at risk – and we must take immediate action to support LGBTQ+ youth. Suicide prevention transcends politics.”
— Jaymes Black, they/she/he
CEO, The Trevor Project
Dear Friend,
I hope you take these words from The Trevor Project’s CEO, Jaymes Black, to heart. Today is the time to take action to support LGBTQ+ youth.
The Trevor Project has always been here to support LGBTQ+ youth in their toughest moments, including these last few months. We knew from our 2024 U.S. National Survey that 90% of LGBTQ+ young people said their mental health and well-being were negatively impacted by recent politics.
Friend, the number of contacts to our crisis services team is increasing each day. On January 20, Inauguration Day, our crisis services saw a 33% increase in volume via phone, text, and chat, compared to weeks prior. And on January 21, the day after, we saw a 46% increase in volume.
LGBTQ+ young people are reaching out for help. They are anxious and afraid.
If there was ever a time to make a true difference and help save lives, this is the time and today is the day. Your gift will help protect and support LGBTQ+ young people during this critical time.
