Donald Trump campaigned on bringing down costs for the American people on Day 1.

Not only did he break that promise on Day 1 – he took action on Day 1 that will raise costs for millions of Americans.

This betrayal by Trump and Republicans of Americans looking for help to afford essential costs was long in coming.

Since Democrats enacted the Inflation Reduction Act which brings down health care costs for Americans by allowing Medicare to negotiate for lower prescription drug prices without one Republican vote, Big Pharma has devoted millions upon millions of dollars – out of their billions of dollars of record profits – on baseless lawsuits, lobbying efforts and massive contributions to Republicans to block that historic negotiation program.

Trump and Republicans in Congress have made it clear: Republicans have no plan to bring costs down for working families but they will put our health care on the chopping block to further enrich their billionaire donors and big corporations already making record profits.

WEEK 1: TRUMP IS ALREADY HARMING VETERANS’ CARE

We know from the extremist Project 2025 agenda and Republicans’ signaled budget priorities that Trump and Republicans in Congress plan to slash veterans' health care and cut vital programs and benefits that veterans’ and military families have earned and rely on, including Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid and nutrition assistance.

But the harm to our veterans from this Administration began on Day 1.

An executive order on Day 1 instituting a hiring freeze across the federal government is impacting individuals and families that have relocated and incurred great costs for new Veterans Administration (VA) jobs caring for our veterans. The health care of countless veterans is now at risk because these recently hired health care workers, nurses and doctors will not be brought onboard to improve understaffing at the VA that the Biden Harris administration worked diligently to alleviate. This hiring freeze must be reversed for the sake of veterans’ health and security.

Know that Democrats will always fight to protect our veterans' hard-won and lifesaving benefits from Republicans’ incompetence, budget cuts and privatization schemes to further enrich their ultrawealthy donors.

REPRODUCTIVE CARE IS HEALTH CARE

Just this week, Republicans pushed legislation to criminalize health care providers for doing their job and making life-saving medical decisions in caring for their patients. And Trump is pardoning criminals who attacked reproductive health care clinics.

It’s shameful. It’s undemocratic. And frankly, it’s un-American. Democrats are fighting these anti-choice extremists to protect women's freedoms.

MAKE NO MISTAKE – MAGA ARE COMING FOR THE ACA

Since the Affordable Care Act was enacted by Democrats without one Republican vote more than 14 years ago, tens of millions of Americans in red and blue states who had no health care gained access to lifesaving, quality, affordable health care and got covered – many because their states enacted the ACA’s transformative Medicaid Expansion.

Strengthened by the Affordable Care Act, Medicaid remains a lifeline for people with disabilities and middle income seniors needing long-term care, a key source of coverage for lower income individuals and families in rural communities, and an essential resource for women and children in America as it provides health coverage to 1 in 5 adult women and more than half of all children in America under the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP.)

Health care is the ultimate kitchen table issue. People understand what access to health care – and the lack of it – means to them and their family and that is why today, a majority of Americans across parties (60%) support the Affordable Care Act.

We Democrats are fighting to Save Our Health Care — and House Republicans in frontline districts are already running scared! This week vulnerable Republicans warned their House GOP leadership AGAINST cutting the Affordable Care Act — fearing a repeat of 2018 when Republicans tried to repeal the Affordable Care Act – and lost 40 seats and the House Majority! Even House Republicans know that Trump has NO mandate to gut health care or come after the ACA!

Working together, we can make the issue “Too Hot To Handle” for Republicans in competitive districts and states and ensure that the Affordable Care Act and other vital pillars of health and financial security for the American people are here to stay!
