A Message from Gabe:

Greetings Rhode Islanders,

This week, our country upheld a bedrock principle of democracy — the peaceful transfer of power. The inauguration of a new president is a chance to come together over our common goals and principles.

This week, I raised alarms about the executive orders signed by President Donald Trump. His actions threaten to roll back progress and go against the core values enshrined in the Constitution. For example,

  • Walking away from agreements like the Paris Climate Accords and the World Health Organization that put our planet and public health in danger. We must continue to work with allies and partners to address the international threats we face.

  • Ending birthright citizenship for the children of immigrants is a direct violation of the 14th Amendment. I’m glad that Rhode Island Attorney General Peter Neronha has filed suit to stop this dangerous and unconstitutional proposal.

  • Ending initiatives started by President Joe Biden to bring down the price of prescription drugs is harmful for seniors on Medicare. We should be working together to build on the momentum achieved in the last 4 years, which involved capping prescription costs, expanding the Affordable Care Act, and ensuring access to COVID-19 treatments and vaccines.

  • Pardoning approximately 1,500 individuals convicted of attacking the Capitol on January 6th — even those who violently assaulted police officers — undermines the rule of law and whitewashes the painful history of that day.
As I’ve said, I will work with anyone, from any party, who wants to improve the lives of Rhode Islanders. But I will also stand firm and defend Rhode Island values as I work to advance progress, expand opportunity, and serve our community in Congress.

Sincerely,

Gabe Amo
Member of Congress

Image On January 22, 1973, the Supreme Court decision in Roe v. Wade guaranteed the right to choose without government interference.

But today, women do not have the same rights because conservatives stacked the Supreme Court with extreme, right-wing justices.

I will not stop fighting until Roe is once again the law of the land.

Image At Saint James Church's Annual Reverend James Wesley Hinson Scholarship Brunch, I spoke about my work in Congress to advance the progress Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. fought for. I was also proud to recognize the co-chair of my Veterans District Advisory Committee, Woonsocket's new councilwoman, Colonel Sharon Harmon.

Thank you to the students from Portsmouth High School for stopping by our office to discuss how Congress is delivering for Rhode Islanders, growing our economy, and acting on climate.

East Providence!

I am proud to work with Senator Jack Reed
and our delegation to secure federal Staffing For Adequate Fire and Emergency Response grants to support staffing needs in fire departments across our state.

Image Inspired by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s words: “we will meet their physical force with soul force,” it was great to celebrate MLK's legacy with community building and storytelling in Barrington.

I was honored to speak about my work in Congress to turn Dr. King's vision for social justice into tangible change for Rhode Islanders.

Supporting Rhode Island Values on the
Budget Committee

Image

Congressman Amo will serve on the House Committee on the Budget for the 119th Congress.

In case you missed it, I am honored to serve on the House Committee on the Budget for the 119th Congress!

This Committee will play an important role in shaping how federal dollars are spent and how government funding will be allocated. It will also be at the heart of pushing back on right-wing attempts to fast-track a tax giveaway that betrays the goal of driving down costs and fighting for priorities that secure the economic future of Americans.

Rhode Island values deserve to be in the room and have a seat at the table where consequential decisions are made. I am ready to get to work!
