Email from Rep. Hinson Friend, Across the country, Iowans and Americans are celebrating because they finally have a government that will be accountable to its people. President Trump’s historic election is the American people’s mandate to reverse the Democrats’ ultimate betrayal of our values and freedoms. Thankfully, the revolution of Common Sense is here. It was incredible that so many Iowans made the trip to D.C. for President Trump’s inauguration! I spent the weekend talking to Iowans, and one thing was clear: the excitement for the Trump Administration is real. On day one of Trump’s presidency, he took immediate action to begin securing the border, lessening the inflation burden on hardworking families, and unleashing American energy. President Trump will fix what Biden broke, and I look forward to ushering in the next era of American prosperity under his leadership. Best, Passing Legislation to Restore Forest Health and Protect Innocent Life Fix Our Forests Act: After passing the Fix Our Forests Act in the House last Congress, House Republicans once again passed this vital bill yesterday to restore forest health and increase resiliency to catastrophic wildfires. I am continuing to pray for the victims in California and am hopeful we can take steps to prevent such catastrophic wildfires in the future. Born-Alive Abortion Survivor Protection Act: Providing life-saving care to babies who survive abortions shouldn’t be controversial, and as a mom, I truly can’t believe it is. That is why I supported the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act, which ensures that infants born alive after an attempted abortion receive the same protection of law and degree of care as any newborn. All human beings deserve life-saving care, and I will continue to fight in Congress to ensure all babies, born and unborn, are treated like the miracles they are. Drain the Swamp It is far past time to reject the DC way of doing things and drain the swamp. On Tuesday, I introduced the bipartisan SWAMP Act that would move federal agency headquarters out of Washington, D.C. and place them close to the people they serve and impact. Too often, federal bureaucrats issue one-size-fits-all regulations that disproportionately harm working families, small businesses, and our farmers who feed and fuel the world. There's no valid reason why the Department of Agriculture should operate from D.C. when it could be situated in an agricultural state like Iowa. My bill will finally hold government accountable, save taxpayer dollars, and give power back to the American people. In Case You Missed It: Quick Hits I thanked all who came to Washington to participate in the March For Life. I welcomed Governor Reynolds to our nation’s Capitol for President Trump’s historic inauguration. I commended President Trump’s commitment to ensuring our beloved nation will no longer be taken advantage of on the world stage. I spoke with KCRG about deporting criminal illegal aliens under the Trump Administration. President Trump recognized the importance of biofuels to unlock American energy dominance.
