The Week in Review

Happy Friday!

I hope you had a wonderful week. I am grateful to serve you all in the 119th Congress. Read below to see what I’ve been working on this week.

Celebrating the Inauguration of President Donald J. Trump

On Monday, Donald J. Trump was inaugurated as the 47th President of the United States.

American patriots have long awaited Inauguration Day. Voters delivered a mandate last November; it’s time for that mandate to be fulfilled.

For four years, Americans have been under the tyrannical thumb of the Biden-Harris regime. The architect of Biden’s Border Crisis, impeached DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, turned a blind eye while millions of violent illegal aliens from around the world flooded our communities. Corrupt AG Merrick Garland weaponized the Justice Department against its citizens—countless peaceful, pro-life advocates and concerned parents at school board meetings were targeted by the weaponized DOJ while bad actors were not held to account. Families live paycheck to paycheck under skyrocketing inflation while radical Leftists vacation at their beach houses in Delaware.

We have a trifecta. Republicans control the House of Representatives, the Senate, and now the Presidency. This is the greatest opportunity of my tenure in Congress to enact real, significant changes in policy to ensure that our government once again serves the people. Under President Trump’s leadership, we will secure our border. We will tackle inflation and bend the spending curve down. And we will push America First priorities through Congress and to the President’s desk for the good of our nation. I am honored to represent Arizona’s Fighting Fifth District in this historic time, and I look forward to working with my colleagues as we carry out American voters’ demands.

President Trump wasted no time getting to work for the American people. In his first four days in office alone, he has taken executive action to:

  • Declare a national emergency at the southern border
  • Permit Border Czar Tom Homan to begin mass deportations of criminal illegal aliens
  • Withdraw the United States from the World Health Organization
  • Terminate DEI initiatives in the federal government
  • Affirm that the United States only recognizes two genders–male and female.

The best is yet to come! I’ll keep you posted.

Defending the Sanctity of Life

I will always defend the sanctity of life. I’ve reintroduced legislation to protect unborn babies’ right to life.

This week, I voted in support of the Born-Alive Survivors Protection Act, legislation to ensure that infants born alive after an attempted abortion receive the same protection of law and degree of care as any newborn. The bill ultimately passed the House 217-204, with 1 Democrat voting present. I was also in attendance at today's March for Life, an annual gathering of thousands of pro-life Americans to protest the horrors of abortion.

In our Declaration of Independence, our Founders acknowledged three unalienable rights–the first of which is Life. No matter the stage of development, all humans have the right to live. Radical Leftists not only deny the unborn their right to life, they’ve forced American taxpayers to pay for the genocide of the unborn. Under President Trump’s Administration, Congress must take a strong stand against abortion as we fight to save the unborn.

My reintroduced legislation includes the following:

  • H.R. 48, Ultrasound Informed Consent Act - Ensures that women seeking an abortion receive an ultrasound and the opportunity to review the ultrasound before consenting to receive an abortion.
  • H.R. 73, Abortion Is Not Health Care Act - Terminates the Internal Revenue Service's treatment of out-of-pocket abortion costs as a medical expense.
  • H.R. 49, No Pro-Abortion Task Force Act - Prohibits federal funds from being used to support Department of Health and Human Services’s (HHS) anti-life Reproductive Healthcare Access Task Force.
  • H.R. 78, Pregnant Women Health and Safety Act - Protects women’s safety by requiring that abortion providers adhere to basic safety standards and have admitting privileges at local hospitals.
  • H.Res. 7 - Recognizes the importance of access to comprehensive, high-quality, life-affirming medical care for women of all ages.

I'm honored to receive an A rating on Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America's pro-life scorecard.

Supporting DOGE

I am committed to limiting the size and scope of government and restoring the balance of powers, both horizontally and vertically. President Donald Trump and Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) initiative was founded to fulfill the American voters’ demand for government reform. I have reintroduced legislation to jump start DOGE’s mission.

The federal government has expanded far beyond what our founders intended. President Trump, Elon Musk, and congressional Republicans must be dedicated to shrinking the size of the government and ensuring that taxpayer dollars are utilized as efficiently as possible. America voted for major government reform, and Congress must be ready to deliver President Trump’s agenda.

My reintroduced legislation includes the following:

  • H.R. 56, Secret Service Prioritization Act - Refocuses the United States Secret Service’s (USSS) mission to its original purpose of protecting our nation’s leaders
  • H.R. 86, Nullify Occupational Safety and Health Administration (NOSHA) Act - Abolishes the Occupational Safety and Health Administration
  • H.R. 50, Keeping Aid for Municipalities and Localities Accountable (KAMALA) Act - Prohibits taxpayer dollars from being used for housing for illegal aliens
  • H.R. 110, Small Business Prosperity Act - Expands the deduction for qualified business income
  • H.R. 107, Return to Work Act - Requires government agencies to reinstate telework policies that were in place on December 31, 2019
  • H.R. 113, Budget Process Enhancement Act - Temporarily withholds the salaries of Members of Congress if a budget resolution is not agreed to for fiscal year 2026
  • H.R. 82 - Defund National Endowment for the Humanities Act
  • H.J.Res. 2 - Proposes a balanced budget amendment to the Constitution of the United States

The Notion of Birthright Citizenship is Abused

I spoke at a press conference hosted by Congressman Brian Babin (R-TX) on his Birthright Citizenship Act. Congressman Babin’s legislation restores the 14th Amendment to its original purpose and ends the misuse of birthright citizenship.

The Wong Kim Ark case, heard by the Supreme Court in 1898, is progressives’ go-to defense for irresponsibly and incorrectly extending birthright citizenship to children of illegal aliens. Wong Kim Ark’s parents, however, had been permanent legal residents of the United States at the time of his birth. They weren’t illegal aliens in the country for birth tourism.

I cosponsored Rep. Babin’s legislation and urge House Leadership to quickly move it through committee. We must codify President Trump’s Executive Order to restore the original purpose of birthright citizenship. Click the image below to watch my remarks from the press conference:

House Judiciary Committee Activity

The House Judiciary Subcommittee on Immigration Integrity, Security, and Enforcement held a hearing titled “Restoring Immigration Enforcement in America.” The Biden-Harris regime created an unprecedented border crisis. In four years, the Administration allowed nearly 8 million illegal aliens to enter the United States, including nearly 5.9 million illegal aliens released into the country and at least 1.9 million known gotaways. Joe Biden and Kamala Harris systematically dismantled effective border security measures and stymied enforcement of immigration law in the interior of the United States, knowing that enforcement of existing laws acts as a deterrent to future border crossers. Commemorating Martin Luther King, Jr. Day

On Monday, we remembered the birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. May we remember Dr. King’s legacy of fighting for those who didn’t have a voice.

It is the dawn of a new era in American history, and we will deliver justice for all who have suffered through the last four years of tyranny.
