# [#]John,

I firmly believe that in Southwest Washington, and most places in the U.S., that we have more in common than divides us. Since day one of my time in Congress, I have upheld this belief by putting place over politics, and working across the aisle to get things done.

I attended the Presidential Inauguration on behalf of WA-03 to witness democracy at work, and reaffirm my willingness to work with anyone on the issues that matter most to you.

But, I was struck by something at the ceremony, John: Billionaire tech CEOs (one of whom spent nearly a million dollars to defeat me last year) seated in front of Cabinet members. I don’t know about you, John, but to me, the world’s richest men taking seats that otherwise would have gone to public servants doesn’t align with the core principles of our democracy.

When the wealthiest individuals wield this kind of influence, are they shaping policies that benefit working Americans—or policies that serve their own interests? This is cronyism in action and it will not bring down prices at the grocery store, make our communities safer, or level the playing field for small businesses.

I didn’t buy my seat in Congress, John – we built a people-powered movement that fought for our shared values. That’s how democracy should work.

But, our fight isn’t over. I’m still counting on your grassroots support as we prepare for the challenges ahead. Will you pitch in $10 to help me keep fighting for you in Congress?
