Email from Kansas Republican Party Kansas and National Political News, Opinions and a Few Giggles, too!       DEFENDING KANSAS SAVING AMERICA   DONATE VOLUNTEER   Donald Trump 47th President of the United States of America ~ We are BACK! On the first day of his second term, President Donald Trump signed several executive orders aimed at reinforcing “America First” conservative principles across various sectors, including border security, energy policy, and the recognition of gender definitions. Key Executive Orders Signed by President Trump in 2025: • Defending Women from Gender Ideology Extremism and Restoring Biological Truth to the Federal Government: This order establishes strict binary definitions of sex as “male and female,” mandates their application across federal agencies, and rescinds previous policies related to gender identity. • National Emergency at the Southern Border: Declares a national emergency to address the situation at the U.S.-Mexico border, enabling the deployment of additional military personnel and resources to enhance border security. It suspends the entry of individuals deemed part of the foreign invasion at the southern border, reinforcing immigration enforcement and border control measures. • Advancing American Energy Independence: Declares a national energy emergency to expand domestic energy production, lift restrictions on oil and gas drilling, and withdraw the U.S. from the Paris Climate Agreement. • Ending Illegal Discrimination and Restoring Merit-Based Opportunity: Dismantles federal Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives, revokes prior executive orders related to diversity and inclusion, and directs agencies to promote policies based on individual merit. • Release of JFK, RFK, and MLK Jr. Classified Investigation Findings: An executive order to declassify the remaining federal records related to their assassinations. This directive is expected to take about two weeks for the release. Addressing reporters, Trump stated, “Everything will be revealed.” These executive actions underscore the administration’s commitment to an “America First” agenda prioritizing transparency, national security, traditional values, economic growth through energy independence, and the elimination of DEI programs. We look forward to seeing you in Goodland as we come together in unity and to strengthen our shared Conservative Republican vision for Kansas!     Unity and Winning Far More Important Than Grinding an Old Ax by Mike Brown Looking Ahead with Optimism When I was elected Chairman of the Kansas Republican Party on February 11, 2023, there were skeptics who doubted my ability to succeed in this role. Some even actively worked against me in an effort to hinder progress. Unfortunately, the media played its obligatory destructive part, amplifying negativity in ways that too often only harm Republicans, even when it’s fellow Republicans acting as political arsonists in starting or fueling a fire. Throughout all the nonsense, I stayed firm in my belief that focus, time, positive results, and a winning record would shift the narrative. I was right. Just a few weeks ago, I had the opportunity to meet with Mike Kuckelman over coffee, thanks to a mutual acquaintance. For more than an hour, we spoke candidly, listening to each other without interruption. After our acquaintance had to leave, Mike and I stayed at the table, continuing our conversation. It was professional, honest, constructive, and focused on the future. We commiserated about the unique challenges and responsibilities of being KSGOP Chairman. We acknowledged areas for party improvement, including necessary changes to our bylaws. Most importantly, we agreed that open communication—talking to each other rather than at or over each other—was essential for progress. The result of this meeting is a new opportunity to move the common goal of KSGOP progress and winning forward by putting personal differences aside. When Mike Kuckelman and Mike Brown stand on the same page, it creates a formidable force for the Kansas Republican Party, and is leadership in and of itself. Setting aside old grievances allows us to direct our energy where it belongs: toward building a strong and united KSGOP focused solely on WINNING. This meeting gives me great hope for what lies ahead. I firmly believe that amazing things are on the horizon for Kansas, and I hope you’ll find it in yourself to join us on this journey. If Mike and I can come together, so can we all. To paraphrase an old famous western movie line, “I came here to drink whiskey and win elections. And partner, I’m all out of whiskey.” #WINNING #LetsRoll #Onward Note: I offered column space to Mike Kuckelman in the Friday File. He has yet to submit his column piece but the offer stands open should he choose to take advantage of the opportunity, and I truly hope he will.   KSGOP Audit Complete, Multiple Year Reports Corrected, Refiled NOTE: Shortly after becoming the Chairman of the KSGOP, I contacted Mark Skoglund, Executive Director of the Kansas Governmental Ethics Commission, to discuss our reporting concerns and dilemma. Mr. Skoglund was extremely professional, understanding, and helpful. To be clear; no reports submitted by my administration required refiling as a result of this audit or its findings. All reports requiring refiling were 100% from the previous administration. A review of the last several years of KSGOP reports to Kansas Governmental Ethics was in order because the cash on hand at the end of each period did not align with the actual cash on hand in the checking accounts. As I stated at the January 2024 KSGOP State Committee Meeting in Overland Park, the numbers did not align. This problem was the result of one of two possible reasons: money was missing or the accounting reports were incorrectly submitted. The only way to solve this serious inconsistency was to audit the KSGOP accounts. An audit by a private firm was estimated to cost in the $45,000-$70,000 range, and we could not afford this significant expense as we needed our dollars focused on winning upcoming elections and not on accounting detail services to unravel the past. I decided we needed to be a forward-facing organization focused on winning elections. And that is exactly what we did. However, I kept the need to clean up the past top of mind continuing to look for an opportunity. And that moment occurred in a conversation with Kansas Governmental Ethics. I explained our position, and they offered to audit our books (accounts) and compare them to the filed reports. And the cost to have them help us resolve these matters was zero. The trade-off was that they would work on it in their spare time, so it wouldn't come fast but would get done for free. And that was an offer I gladly accepted. NOTE: Shortly after becoming the Chairman of the KSGOP, I contacted Mark Skoglund, Executive Director of the Kansas Governmental Ethics Commission, to discuss our reporting concerns and dilemma. Mr. Skoglund was extremely professional, understanding, and helpful. To be clear; no reports submitted by my administration required refiling as a result of this audit or its findings. All reports requiring refiling were 100% from the previous administration. At the request of the Kansas Republican Party, Kansas Governmental Ethics completed a detailed and painstakingly in-depth audit of KSGOP reports filed over the past many years. The intent was to ensure proper reporting was reflected between the submitted reports and the actual cash balances at the close of each period. Upon their review, Kansas Governmental Ethics provided information on where inconsistencies and errors in reporting of expenditures and receipts were over- or under-reported. At this time, the Kansas Governmental Ethics and the Kansas Republican Party have no reason to believe the many errors were anything but clerical mistakes and careless record-keeping over the last several years by the leadership team in place at that time. Some errors were as small as transposing two numbers. This leadership team had a duty to “know or should have known” that these errors were factual and that the errors were compounding with each subsequent report. There was a fiduciary responsibility by those on the leadership team because of their KSGOP position and, in some cases, because of their responsibilities in their professional career. In our endless quest for transparency and accuracy, we have corrected, amended, and refiled prior years' reports as necessary. As of the publishing of this article, we are still attempting to upload some of the information due to complications arising from the corrected data being older than the current online computer system and other technological issues. We hope to see this resolved soon. Management Note: It is good to have these reporting discrepancies resolved and the financial books and reporting aligned, balanced, and accurate. I ask all Kansas Republicans to join me in thanking Kansas Governmental Ethics - and Mark Skogkund - for their dedicated efforts to help us resolve this matter. I look forward to all Republicans now focusing on the future, with the surety of knowing we have a solid and accurate financial base to build upon.
