During the annual meeting of the Governor’s Human Trafficking Task Force, the Ohio Department of Public Safety announced [ [link removed] ] the launch of a new human trafficking dashboard that combines data from several state agencies into a centralized location to increase accessibility for the public, policy makers, and researchers.

The dashboard, available on the DataOhio [ [link removed] ] Portal, houses the human trafficking data previously maintained separately by the Ohio departments of Children and Youth, Developmental Disabilities, Mental Health and Addiction Services, Rehabilitation and Correction, and Youth Services. Public Safety will add its data in the coming months. Each agency is a member of the Governor’s Human Trafficking Task Force.

“Combining this agency-specific data for the first time helps to identify and connect survivors to services in a more comprehensive way,” said Governor DeWine. “The new dashboard will also help develop a more accurate picture of the number of survivors by addressing duplicates in data.”

The Ohio Department of Development announced [ [link removed] ] $22.4 million in grants to 27 communities to improve access to housing and provide homeownership and rental assistance for low- and moderate-income families.

The Community Housing Impact and Preservation (CHIP) program partners with communities to preserve and improve Ohio’s housing stock through various housing-related initiatives such as home renovation and repair, rental assistance, and more.

“We want all Ohioans to have a safe and stable place to call home, and these grants support that mission by improving housing, supporting homeownership, and creating opportunities for a better future,” said Governor DeWine.

next gen 911 [ [link removed] ]

Governor DeWine announced [ [link removed] ] that Washington and Monroe counties are the first in the state to fully implement Next Generation 9-1-1 (NG9-1-1). Governor DeWine made the adoption of NG9-1-1 across Ohio a priority of his 2024-2025 Executive Budget [ [link removed] ] to improve emergency response times and ultimately save lives.

“Every second counts when we are talking about saving lives,” said Governor DeWine. “Next Generation 9-1-1 makes emergency services more efficient, especially in the rural areas of Ohio where it is critical to have strong and reliable communication infrastructure.”

Governor DeWine announced [ [link removed] ] the results of the November TechCred application period in which 492 employers were awarded, providing the opportunity for Ohioans to earn 6,766 tech-focused credentials. This announcement also marks a new milestone for TechCred for awarding more than 120,000 tech-focused credentials to nearly 3,500 Ohio employers since 2019.

“TechCred gives Ohio employers the opportunity to choose the tech training their employees need — most times at no cost to them,” said Governor DeWine. “Participating in TechCred is a great way for employers to ensure their employees continue learning new skills.”

The current application period for Ohio employers opened January 2, 2025, and will close on January 31, 2025, at 3 p.m. Individuals and training providers interested in learning more about the program can visit TechCred.Ohio.Gov.

The number of suicide deaths in Ohio declined [ [link removed] ] for the first time in three years in 2023, decreasing about 1% from 2022’s numbers, according to the 2023 Ohio Suicide Report released by the Ohio Department of Health (ODH).

Ohio deaths by suicides dropped to 1,777 in 2023 – 20 fewer than 2022. Ohio’s decrease compares favorably to national numbers. Across the country, suicide rates declined by less than 1% last year.

“Ohio has become a national leader in addressing the mental health crisis, and this latest report indicates welcome progress,” said Governor DeWine. “But while this decrease in suicide deaths is certainly a step in the right direction, we must continue to make improvements in suicide prevention and mental health. Depression and suicide remain a serious threat – especially to our kids. If anything, our progress should inspire us to further advance our commitment to this life-saving work, because the life of every Ohioan is precious.”

ODNR forestry [ [link removed] ]

Governor DeWine announced [ [link removed] ] that he has dispatched a nine-person fire management team from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) to assist firefighters battling the devastating wildfires that continue to rage in California.

Fire managers in southern California issued a request for additional resources on Thursday as wildfires continue to be fueled by the state's dry conditions and strong winds.

“We've been anticipating that California may call on our skilled ODNR wildfire response team, so we were prepared and ready to answer the call for help,” said Governor DeWine. “I commend the members of our brave crew who are leaving their loved ones in order to support their counterparts on the West Coast."
