Hi John , Welcome to the latest New Pennsylvania Project newsletter!
It's official, Donald Trump is President. He kicked off his second term with several actions to sharply turn the nation towards the right — just like he said he would. With moves that deepen economic inequality, attack vulnerable communities, and inflict harm through our immigration system, the future of our country feels bleak. Does it have to be?
In our hands we have the power to help shape our country and preserve democracy.
Local, municipal and judicial elections are going to be critical as they are the last line of defense. Organizations like the ACLU are already filing suits to protect our nation. We have the power to affect change on the ground by making sure our courts and local elected officials remain impartial. This year our work is more important than ever.

| All of us know democracy works best when it works for everyone. That is why we want to hear about the issues you care about the most in 2025. Please, take a couple minutes to let us know how we can continue to empower our communities to get out and vote in ALL elections! |

In an article for The Keystone, published on January 20th, Sean Kitchen quoted New Pennsylvania Project's founding CEO, Kadida Kenner, saying: “I choose on this Jan. 20th to honor the legacy of Dr. King and the incomparable Coretta Scott King, who remind us that we need leaders who are in love with justice and not leaders who are in love with power and power grabs and injustice.” |

On Rev Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day, we also honored the legacy of Coretta Scott King, a remarkable woman who dedicated her life to fighting for justice and equality, alongside her husband, Martin Luther King Jr.
Some may argue Dr. King's legacy would not be what it is today without Mrs. King's work. Coretta Scott King was an American author, activist, and civil rights leader who played a crucial role in the Civil Rights Movement. Her efforts also extended beyond civil rights, advocating for women's rights, LGBTQ rights, and an end to apartheid in South Africa.
Even after the tragic assassination of her husband in 1968, Coretta Scott King continued to be a powerful voice for change for 39 more years. She established the Martin Luther King, Jr. Center for Nonviolent Social Change to carry on their shared dream.

Trump Revokes Biden’s 2021 Executive Order Expanding Voting Access
"On his first day in office, President Donald Trump rescinded former President Joe Biden’s 2021 executive order promoting voting access and expanding voter registration."
A Little-Known Federal Agency Helps Secure Elections. Trump Wants to Gut It
"Buried deep within Project 2025 — the Heritage Foundation’s 900-page blueprint for how the new conservative administration can slide the government into an authoritarian regime — is a cursory section suggesting reforms for a relatively new, little-known federal agency called the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA). Formed in 2018 within the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), CISA is responsible for cybersecurity and infrastructure protection across the government."
