The Six Triple Eight: Quiet Heroism in WWII
The incredible story of the 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion, the only Black Women’s Army Corps unit in World War II, comes to Engage at the Bush Center, presented by NexPoint on Feb. 12. The Six Triple Eight battled racism and misogyny while contributing to the war effort by clearing a backlog of 17 million pieces of soldier mail in three months from a warehouse in Birmingham, England.
Hear a discussion with Milauna Jackson, who plays Captain Campbell in the Netflix film The Six Triple Eight; Nicole Avant, the critically acclaimed producer of the Netflix film, bestselling author, and former U.S. ambassador; retired Army Col. Edna Cummings, who produced a documentary on the Six Triple Eight in 2019 and passionately – and successfully – advocated for the battalion to be recognized with the Congressional Gold Medal.
