John,

The US news cycle this month has been alarming, but the Ignatian family inspires us to respond boldly and out of our deep commitment to a faith that does justice.

From the border, Fr. Brian Strassburger, S.J. reported ([link removed]) what it was like to accompany migrants whose CBP One appointments were canceled. While new executive orders regarding immigration received much coverage, the decision by the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals ([link removed]) rejecting President Biden’s efforts to fortify the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program did not receive sufficient coverage. This decision, and many of the executive orders, affect the young leaders in our Undocu Network ([link removed]) , who gathered over MLK holiday weekend for the fourth annual Undocu Summit.

With deep ties to Los Angeles, Christian Astran, an educator at Xavier College Prep, shared his experience with wildfire evacuation from an Ignatian lens ([link removed]) . While rebuilding is a long-term project, immigrants will contribute heavily. That same LA population stitches the clothes made in the US, and the Catholic Ethical Purchasing Alliance (CEPA) is collaborating with local partners in the garment industry ([link removed]) to provide immersive learning opportunities for students from Catholic colleges and universities.

As always, thank you for your steadfast support!
In solidarity,

The recent decision by the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals rejecting President Biden’s efforts to fortify the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program is a profound setback for DACA recipients and their families and a troubling reminder of the precarious reality faced by nearly 600,000 young people across our nation who have DACA status.
