Subcommittee on Disability Assistance and Memorial Affairs Oversight Hearing

On Thursday, we participated in an important House Veteran Affairs hearing titled: “Correcting VA’s Violations of Veterans’ Due Process and Second Amendment Rights.” With South Carolina home to more than 340,000 veterans, our office knows the importance of protecting the rights of those who served our country. Our office also questioned whether the VA’s practices might discourage veterans—especially survivors of military sexual trauma—from seeking mental health care due to fears of losing their constitutional rights. We learned more about the challenges veterans face proving they are not dangerous, the lack of due process, and how these policies erode their trust in the VA. These problems must be addressed to protect the rights of those who served our country. Watch our line of questioning here or by clicking the video above.

You can watch more of our hearings on our official YouTube channel here.

We Reintroduced the Standing with Moms Act

Our office reintroduced the Standing with Moms Act, legislation designed to support women and families by creating Life.gov, a centralized online resource hub for expectant mothers. This website provides women with easy access to services from pregnancy care to postpartum support. The bill aims to provide a comprehensive network of resources—mental health counseling, child development alternatives, financial assistance, and more. Life.gov will help expecting mothers here in South Carolina and across the country. With the backing of organizations like the National Right to Life Committee, this bill ensures no mother faces her journey alone.

House Votes Yes on Senate Laken Riley Act,
Now It Goes to the Presidents Desk

On Wednesday, the House approved the Laken Riley Act with a vote of 263-156, a day after the Senate voted to approve it 64-35. This is a monumental win for protecting our towns and cities from illegal aliens. The Laken Riley Act is expected to be the first bill signed into law by President Donald Trump in his second term, following his focus on immigration through several executive orders since taking office on Monday. This legislation requires federal officials to detain illegal immigrants who have been charged with or convicted of theft-related crimes—such as burglary, larceny, or shoplifting—or accused of assaulting law enforcement officers. We cosponsored this bill and voted ‘Yes’ on it because protecting our streets and our women and children is one of our top priorities.
