This week was monumental here in Washington as Members of Congress, invited guests, and dignitaries gathered to celebrate Donald J. Trump going from the 45th to 47th President. I feel blessed to be able to witness to such a momentous time in our country’s history. President Trump was perhaps the person most equipped to take the office of President of the United States out of everyone who has been president. This first week of the Trump Administration saw promises made become promises kept. I believe, as President Trump has said, that we are entering the Golden Age of America.

It was wonderful to see so many of you from TX-17 in DC to celebrate President Trump! Thank you for coming by my office and engaging with me. You are welcome back anytime!

Committee Assignments

Statement on Congressman Sessions serving as Chairman of the Subcommittee on Government Operations
With a new Congress comes new committee assignments. I am pleased to announce that I will continue in my role as the Chairman of the Subcommittee on Government Operations on the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform. Also on the Oversight Committee, I will sit on the Subcommittee on Health Care and Financial Services. I will also remain on the Financial Services Committee as a senior member. There, I was selected to serve on the Subcommittee on Financial Institutions, and the Subcommittee on National Security, Illicit Finance, and International Financial Institutions. I am looking forward to getting to work in each of these roles.
Legislative Highlights

H.R. 572The RED TAPE Act
In 2023, The Biden-Harris Administration issued guidance that directed government agencies to heavily incorporate non-monetary values into their cost-benefit analyses of proposed regulations. Instead of measuring the fiscal costs and benefits of a regulation, federal agencies are now assigning monetary value to obscure qualitative data. These regulations come at a cost to taxpayers, and there must be integrity, transparency, and a clear commitment to measurable results for the American people in this process. That is why, as Chairman of the House DOGE Caucus, I introduced the RED TAPE Act with Senate DOGE Caucus Chairwoman, Senator Joni Ernst (IA). This legislation ensures that mismanagement and waste are eliminated from our government, and reflects my commitment to the DOGE effort.

H.R. 471The Fix Our Forests Act
This week, we passed H.R.471, the Fix Our Forests Act. I was a proud co-sponsor and a YES on this legislation. As we have watched the tragedy unfold through the fires in LA, the need for responsible forest management has been highlighted. We have three beautiful national forests in TX-17: Sam Houston National Forest, Angelina National Forest, and Davy Crockett National Forest. Last year, I toured areas that had seen wildfires and became familiar with the successful forestry practices implemented within our district. This comprehensive bipartisan legislation will implement these proven practices nationwide.

S. 5The Laken Riley Act
After H.R.29 passed out of the House last week, we voted on Thursday on the Senate version of the Laken Riley Act, S.5. The Senate version also passed in the House with 263 YES votes. I was a proud YES each time the Laken Riley Act was brought to the House floor. Now, the legislation will make its way to the desk of the President, where President Trump will sign it into law. As you may remember, the Laken Riley Act will ensure that illegal aliens that are arrested and charged with crimes will be held and deported. This is an important step in securing our border and keeping American streets safe.
