[ [link removed] ]Ayanna Pressley for Congress
It’s been a
harrowing first week of the new Trump administration. The slew of
executive orders he’s signed represent some of the worst, most extreme
policies we’ve seen in many decades.
Trump is wasting no time advancing his harmful agenda, and we aren’t
wasting any time fighting back. This week, I joined Congresswoman Ilhan
Omar and Senator Mazie Hirono to officially reintroduce the Neighbors Not
Enemies Act.
This legislation repeals the antiquated Alien Enemies Act of 1798, which
Trump is threatening to use to carry out mass deportations of our
neighbors, friends, and community members – based on nothing more than
their nationality. This draconian law was used during World War II to
detain and deport Japanese, Italian, and German-Americans. And in his
first presidency, Trump used it to justify his racist Muslim Ban and we
expect he’ll go even further.
This is the dark direction Trump is taking us in. But make no mistake: I
will do everything in my power to stop these dangerous policies.

legislation.
Will you sign your name as a grassroots co-sponsor of the Neighbors Not
Enemies Act and take a stand in support of immigrant communities?
SIGN ON
I’m proud to represent one of the most diverse districts in the country.
But with nearly one-third of my constituents foreign-born, the fear and
trauma felt in our communities is all too real.
I’ve met constituents who’ve developed heartbreaking plans, telling their
children what to do if they come home from school and they are not there
because they’ve been deported or detained.
I’ve sat with elders who’ve been here for many years, carrying their
medications around with them everywhere they go, terrified that they might
be ripped away from their families and the only community they’ve known.
I’ve heard from third graders terrified they’ll come home to an empty
house and never see their father again.
The pain, fear, and uncertainty is the shameful reality for so many in our
district. But let me be clear: we will never stop fighting to protect our
immigrant neighbors, our workers, our families, and everyone who stands to
be harmed by this new administration.
We are a nation of immigrants, and that’s what makes America strong. [ [link removed] ]If
you agree, join me today by signing on to the Neighbors Not Enemies Act
and help us send a message that our nation is stronger because of our
diversity.
YES, I AGREE
We just celebrated the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday, and Dr. King
reminds us that our most powerful weapon is organizing. Together, we’ll
continue organizing, mobilizing, and legislating to protect our neighbors
and keep each other safe.
Onward,
Ayanna
