That changed with President Trump's selection of Susie Wiles, who has received widespread praise as the perfect choice for the job.  Wiles is a mother, grandmother, and a longtime veteran of Florida politics who rose from serving as Trump's chief campaign strategist in the state in 2016 to Trump's co-campaign manager in 2024. Tuesday Ashley Moody (R-FL) was sworn in as Florida's next U.S. senator after Marco Rubio's unanimous confirmation to be the next U.S. secretary of state. Moody is a mother of two who had been the state's attorney general since 2018, having previously served as a circuit judge for ten years prior. Now that she's been sworn in, Republicans have officially set a new record with 10 women serving in the U.S. Senate. President Trump joined all of them for breakfast ahead of his inauguration. Congratulations, Senator Moody! Wednesday Rep. Elise Stefanik (NY-21) received bipartisan praise both during and after her confirmation hearing in front of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. Stefanik committed to restoring "America's role as its formative leader" as the next U.S. ambassador to the United Nations and pledged to stand up to anti-Semitism: "If you look at the anti-Semitic rot within the United Nations, there are more resolutions targeting Israel than any other country, any other crisis combined... We need to be a voice of moral clarity on the UN Security Council." Thursday Punchbowl reported that the U.S. Senate will likely vote to confirm South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem as the next Secretary of Homeland Security this Sunday. Noem received "resounding" bipartisan support from the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, which voted 13-2 to advance her nomination to the Senate floor.
