We Will Not Back Down
Affirming Our Commitment to Global Climate Justice

Trump's second administration is rapidly escalating existential threats to our climate, our human rights, and the future of our global climate justice movement. Amazon Watch will remain steadfast in our solidarity with frontline communities whose rights and livelihoods are at risk, continuing to champion just and lasting solutions to the climate crisis. From Los Angeles to the Amazon, we understand that our struggles and our futures are intertwined.Β

No single administration – no matter how determined to prioritize corporate profits over the rights of people and the planet – can undo the progress and resilience built over generations. Across the Amazon rainforest, Indigenous-led movements continue to endure and resist genocidal attacks on their communities and cultures. Their organizing, alongside our long-term solidarity campaigns, will only strengthen in response to the new threats we will face, whether from an emboldened corporate elite or a hostile U.S. administration.

Amazon Watch’s mission to defend the rainforest and advance the rights of Indigenous and traditional peoples is among the most effective ways to safeguard the Amazon and our global climate. Vile and dangerous rhetoric from the White House will not reverse the advancements in Indigenous rights and protections achieved in Ecuador, Brazil, Peru, Colombia, and beyond. As the current administration continues to recklessly roll back environmental and human rights protections, we know that networks of global solidarity will continue to strengthen and proliferate. We will not allow Trump or anyone to undermine our commitment to defend environmental justice, human rights, and Indigenous leadership.

Now is the time to channel our collective energy toward the people-powered struggles advancing climate justice worldwide. Together, we will continue to grow a movement that protects the Amazon, respects Indigenous rights and territories, and advances a global transition to a just future beyond fossil fuels. With unwavering determination, we will help secure an Amazon free of deforestation and a planet where people and nature thrive in harmony.
