Getting teens to take safety seriously can be a struggle at the best of times, but right now it’s more important than ever. As coronavirus restrictions are eased and teens start getting together with friends, how can we ensure they’re being safe?

This week on childmind.org we talk to our experts about how to get teenagers on board with precautions like masks and distancing when they’re out of your sight. Talking through both their concerns and yours — like what to do if they find themselves in a situation that violates your family’s rules — will help you to be able to trust them and them to enjoy the freedom they want.

Cooperation can also be a concern for parents of kids on the autism spectrum, who may balk at wearing face masks and other changes brought about by the pandemic. We explore strategies for increasing your child’s ability to cooperate with new demands in these stressful times.
