Trump promised to lower costs on day one — but it’s increasingly clear that the only people whose costs he really plans to lower are billionaires like Elon Musk.

House Republicans just released a plan to cut Medicaid benefits for millions of Americans in order to bankroll Trump’s new tax breaks for billionaires and other special interests.

Over 72 million Americans are enrolled in Medicaid, including over a million here in Oregon, and House Republicans are putting their healthcare at risk just so the wealthiest Americans can get even richer.

This is not the kind of change Americans are looking for, and it absolutely isn’t what the people of OR-06 were looking for when they voted to re-elect me as their representative. Gutting working families’ health care to fund giveaways to billionaires is just plain wrong — and we need to stand up against it.

Like I told you earlier this week, I’m not going to email you in a fit of outrage every time Trump or his extremist allies in Congress say something I don’t like. We need to be focused and strategic.

This is one of those priorities where we need to focus our energy. The American people deserve leaders who will make health care and daily life more affordable, not less. And with Republicans enjoying only a tiny majority in Congress, we have a real shot at reducing the damage they inflict if we exert public pressure when it counts.
