Storms, flooding, trains and a productive week
This week has been a storm, literally and figuratively! I've been busy in Parliament with my Tobacco and Vapes bill, with the session running until 11pm on Tuesday. I've met with schools from our area, the APPG on Black Health, Gambling with Lives and the British Liver Trust.
I've worked with neighbouring MP's to tackle the issues we're experiencing with Royal Mail and written to the Secretary of State for Transport about the service at Denton Station.
Back home, it was great to host my surgery in Gorton, visit All Saints Primary, and speak with Harry Catherall, the new Chief Executive of Tameside Council.
ANDREW IN THE COMMUNITY
📻 Hits Radio tour and interview
It was great to be invited to the Hits Radio station in Castlefield today for a tour of their studios and a short interview.
I had a great time, and you can listen to my interview on their station at this evening between 4 - 7pm and Monday between 6 - 10am
🧑🏫 All Saints School Gorton
Wonderful to visit All Saints School in Gorton, it's always to a pleasure to visit the brilliant schools we have here in our constituency, and this was no different today.
We spoke about how we can all work together to make Gorton a better place to live, and what my job is, what Parliament does and what I do as a minister.
A big thanks to all the staff, pupils and governors that make All Saints what it is.
📝 Gorton Advice Bureaux
I held one of my regular Advice Bureaux in Gorton, where constituents can come and speak with me about their casework or local issues.
To find out when my next session is, and to book a slot, please contact me office using the details at the top of this email.
🏛️ Meeting with the Chief Executive of Tameside
I sat down in my office to meet with the Chief Executive of Tameside, Harry Catherall to discuss the issues facing Tameside, and how we can work together to solve them.
📮 Royal Mail Issues
Earlier in the week, alongside Afzal Khan, I wrote to Royal Mail demanding an answer and a resolution to the postal issues that many of our constituents have been reporting.
I remain in discussion with Royal Mail, and will update constituents once I have received a satisfactory resolution.
🛤️ Denton Station
Also this week, in a joint letter to the Secretary of State for Transport, myself and Navendu Mishra, MP for Stockport, outlined the appalling services on the line between Stockport and Stalybridge.
We're both determined to get a proper service to these stations, and I'll keep fighting for this as long as I'm an MP.
ANDREW IN PARLIAMENT
🎰 Gambling with Lives
I spoke at the Gambling with Lives event in Parliament.
Gambling harms cost lives, this government and I want to get to a reality where no one dies from gambling harms.
⚕️ Black Health APPG
Yesterday I attended the inaugural meeting of the Black Health APPG, alongside the CAHN (Caribbean African Health Network) who operate in Gorton.
Where someone lives, the colour of their skin, or their income shouldn’t determine how long, or how well they can live.
£315k was announced by the government on Monday to support councils with the costs of homelessness and rough sleeping. This triples our national homeless budget from £10m to £30m.
We announced our Armed Forces Commissioner to champion serving personnel and their families, helping to improve conditions for all associated with our armed forces.
I'm very excited to welcome BeeNetwork Rail, which will bring rail into the BeeNetwork from December 2026 next year.
Following a consultatiom, Manchester was allowed to cancel their clean air zone, having met targets through improving public transport, £86m was then pledged by the government to continue this improvement.

I spoke on a debate in the House of Commons on what the government is doing to tackle obesity, especially childhood obesity.
