It’s easy to feel cynical when five days into Trump’s presidency he’s allowing billionaires to buy the government and dismantling everything we worked hard for.

But I want to share some optimism with you: Trump can’t do everything on his own. He needs Congress, and the GOP holds a very slim majority in both the House and Senate — meaning they will need some Democratic votes to pass legislation.

This gives us some leverage. If we stay united, we can shape policy to ensure it’s bipartisan without compromising our values.

Now don’t get me wrong, this isn’t going to be some big kumbaya. I know that I’m going to push for legislation that might not ever see the light of day on the House floor, but I’m still advocating for it because I know it is important to my constituents.

While we may not see the results we want overnight, that doesn’t mean that we shouldn’t fight for them any less. I’ll keep doing what I can in the House, but that’s only possible with your ongoing support.
