Dear Friend,
I had the privilege of attending the 60th Presidential Inauguration to witness the swearing-in of our 47th President of the United States, Donald J. Trump.
For the last four years, the American people have endured the reckless policies of Joe Biden’s Administration — that changed on January 20th. President Trump’s speech was a breath of fresh air for Americans — he will bring down costs, close the Southern Border, deport illegal immigrants, bring back free speech, and unleash American energy dominance.
The Golden Age of America begins now.
As the representative of Maryland's 1st Congressional District and Chairman of the House Freedom Caucus, I look forward to working with the Trump Administration to end inflation, reduce government spending, bring back common sense in education, and protect the constitutional rights of Marylanders and all Americans. Promises made - promises kept.
After the inauguration, the House passed the Senate amended version of the Laken Riley Act.
S. 5 - Laken Riley Act - PASSED
Last week, the House of Representatives passed H.R. 29; the Laken Riley Act and sent the bill over to the Senate for consideration. After being sent to the Senate, the bill was amended to strengthen the list of criminal offenses that require illegal aliens to be detained. These changes include adding “assault on a law enforcement officer” and “crimes that result in serious bodily injury” to the legislative text. This week, the House passed the Senate amended version, and now this important piece of legislation is headed to President Trump's desk for his signature.
The Laken Riley Act, named after the 22-year-old Georgia nursing school student killed by an illegal immigrant, would require U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement to take custody of illegal immigrants in the United States illegally who commit theft-related crimes like shoplifting. The act also includes a provision allowing state attorneys who consider their state, or its residents harmed by immigration policies to sue the Department of Homeland Security.
H.R. 21 - Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act - PASSED
H.R. 21, the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act, secures medical protections for babies that survive an attempted abortion, requiring health care providers to administer the same medical care they would to a fetus born prematurely, transport the child to the hospital, and report violations to law enforcement.
Providing medical care to babies that survive an abortion should not be a controversial issue – it’s a moral one. Babies born alive after an attempted abortion are no less deserving of lifesaving medical care than any other baby, and we must ensure that they receive the care they deserve.
H.R. 471, - Fix Our Forests Act -- PASSED:
The Fix Our Forests Act, improves forest management by deterring frivolous litigation that delays important forest management projects and prioritizes treatments in the forests with the highest risk of wildfires.
The devastating wildfires in Los Angeles not only threatens our forests and environment, but the lives of Americans. The Fix Our Forests Act reduces regulatory burdens that hinder active forest management, improving the health and resiliency of our forests, and ensuring continued supply of clean drinking water and wood products.
