Legislative Update

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

It is with great excitement and gratitude that I write to you as your new state representative. Serving the people of District 41A is truly an honor, and I am committed to representing your values and priorities at the Capitol. I look forward to being your voice on the issues that matter most to you, your family, and our community.

As your representative, my focus is on ensuring that government works for the people—not the other way around. I will work tirelessly to deliver meaningful results, and I’m eager to update you on the work already underway in St. Paul.

*Getting to Work Amidst a Chaotic Session*

While this legislative session has been marked by chaos, I want you to know that I am here doing the work you elected me to do. My colleagues and I are laser-focused on addressing the challenges Minnesotans are facing—from rising costs to government inefficiencies—and we’ve introduced a bold policy agenda centered on six key pillars:

* *Stopping Fraud and Waste*: Ensuring your hard-earned taxpayer dollars are used responsibly by eliminating waste, fraud, and abuse in state government.
* *Making Minnesota Affordable*: Lowering the cost of living for families and seniors through meaningful tax relief and economic reforms.
* *Making Minnesota Safe*: Supporting law enforcement and enacting policies that enhance public safety and protect our communities.
* *Raising Standards, Reducing Mandates*: Improving education outcomes while cutting unnecessary regulations that burden schools.
* *Ensuring Minnesota Tax Dollars Are for Minnesotans*: Prioritizing taxpayer funds for the people who live, work, and contribute to our state.
* *Building for the Future*: Investing in infrastructure and sustainable development to strengthen our communities for generations to come.

These pillars guide our work as we navigate the challenges of this session. I’m here every day advocating for solutions that reflect the values and priorities of our district, and I look forward to seeing these policies advance.

*HF 4: Giving Surpluses Back to the People*

One of my top priorities this session is addressing Minnesota’s affordability crisis, and I’m proud to introduce HF 4 [ [link removed] ], a proposed constitutional amendment that ensures future state budget surpluses are returned directly to Minnesotans.

When Minnesota runs a surplus, it’s because Minnesotans were overtaxed. HF 4 ensures those funds go back where they belong: into the pockets of the people who worked hard to earn them. It’s time to prioritize families, not government bureaucracy.

HF 4 is part of the broader “Make Minnesota Affordable” initiative, which includes:

* *HF 5 [ [link removed] ]*: Comprehensive tax reforms, including repealing the retail delivery fee, eliminating the state tax on Social Security income, and creating a fairer tax system for all Minnesotans.
* *HF 9 [ [link removed] ]*: Modernizing renewable energy policies by expanding hydroelectric power as a renewable source, delaying impractical mandates, and protecting reliable energy infrastructure to stabilize energy costs.

These bills are designed to provide immediate relief and long-term solutions for families, seniors, and businesses. HF 4 is particularly important because it enshrines the principle of surplus returns in the Minnesota Constitution, protecting taxpayers from future overreach and ensuring financial accountability in state government.

I had the opportunity to present this bill for the first time in front of the Taxes Committee this week. On a more lighthearted note, I also observed a legislative tradition that a lot of people might not be aware of. Traditionally, first-term legislators bring in food from their district to commemorate the presentation of their first bill and share with committee members. I brought some great food from our very own Lake Elmo Inn. What a fun way to share part of our community with my colleagues.
