Circumventing the law creates mistrust and undermines transparency in government
House Republicans ask Commissioner how she will respond to obvious legal and ethical breaches by Deputy Director
STATE HOUSE - House Republicans have requested a response from DAFS Commissioner Kirsten Figueroa on a “recent and troublesome revelation regarding the withholding of a statutorily required report by the Department of Administrative & Financial Affairs.”
The request (attached) was made by House Republican Leader Billy Bob Faulkingham.
Specifically, it refers to an admission made by Deputy Director Anya Trundy during the Office of Cannabis Policy's appearance before the Veterans and Legal Affairs Committee on January 22, 2025.
Deputy Director Trundy confessed that she intentionally withheld a critical report from lawmakers and the public. State law requires the department to annually produce reports about Maine's Adult-Use and Medical Cannabis programs. These reports were due in February of 2024, violating both statutory requirements and the public trust.
