Dear John,
I hope you are surrounded by kindness, gentleness, and love during this time.
On Monday, January 20, President Donald Trump took office for a second term, stated harmful rhetoric against marginalized communities, and swiftly launched his agenda to deny immigrants safety, opportunity, and dignity. A few days before, the 5th Circuit also ruled to further limit DACA. While these recent events may incite fear and panic, a lot remains unknown. Immigrant rights organizations all over the nation, including Immigrants Rising, are working hard to understand and prepare for any occurring and possible implications of Trump’s new executive orders. There are a few things I am certain of: we make each other strong, we keep each other safe, and we will fight harder than ever for our communities.
Here at Immigrants Rising, our commitment to the undocumented community doesn’t waver even during these dark times. We are steadfast in advocating for transformative policies, expanding innovative programming that supports our community members, and collaborating with them to create a lasting positive impact, but we cannot do it alone. We must work alongside one another—movement organizations, grassroots networks, institutions, and every community member—to ensure everyone can thrive, regardless of their status.
As we brace ourselves for years ahead when we may feel waves of concern, fear, and rage, it is important that we remain brave, hopeful, and united. It is crucial to stay informed, and we encourage you to Know Your Rights No Matter Who is President; learn 10 Things You Can Do as a DACA Recipient, and; nurture your mental health.
We will always find ways to thrive.
Together We Rise,
