New Administration, Continued AdvocacyGreetings,??

This week has been eventful and heavy for so many across the country. President Trump was sworn into office for his second term on Monday and quickly signed several executive orders, many of which relate to immigration - leaving people fearful and scrambling for more information. While these actions were not unexpected, they are disappointing and move away from finding bipartisan and compassionate immigration solutions.??

As this administration and new Congress begin their terms, we at the National Immigration Forum have updated our immigration principles [link removed] that outline what we are advocating for to help build a stronger America:????

* Enable fair and orderly legal immigration that continues to solidify our global economic leadership. Modernize laws to reduce backlogs and improve work visa programs for current and future workers.??

* Address the need for safety and security on the border and in our communities. Promote community trust and safety by: Focusing immigration enforcement on threats to public safety and national security and ensuring that immigration enforcement remains primarily a federal responsibility.??

* Strengthen our security, economy and leadership in the world as a welcoming nation that offers protection and refuge to the persecuted through well-vetted, orderly pathways.??

* Respect the human dignity of every individual and preserve the sanctity of the family unit, even as border security and immigration enforcement increase.??

* Promote the rule of law by allowing longtime residents an opportunity to earn lawful status and eventual citizenship - including Dreamers, who already are deeply rooted here and are contributing as business owners and workers.??

* Defend the longstanding constitutional principle of birthright citizenship and protect???family-based immigration [link removed] a core aspect of our national values.?????

Jennie Murray, President and CEO of the National Immigration Forum, pointed to the relevance of these principles in a recent press release [link removed] saying, "These principles lay a balanced foundation for American workers and families to thrive. By???wide margins [link removed], Americans want immigration policy reforms that not only ensure strength and security, but also protect???family unity and human dignity." We ask that you show your support for these principles [link removed] and show your members of Congress that they are important in working toward solutions.????

There will be more and more concerning news regarding immigration as President Trump settles into his second term. If you are wondering where you can stay up to date and informed, we have some resources for you:??

* The Forum Daily - a daily newsletter that summarizes the most relevant news and offers encouraging stories of people who are advocating and welcoming immigrants in their communities. (Sign up here [link removed])??

* The Legislative Bulletin - a weekly summary of the most important developments in immigration policy. (Sign up here [link removed], same form as above)????

* Our Resources Page [link removed] - here you can find fact sheets and summaries of legislation and actions around immigration (such as this summary of President Trump's executive order on the U.S. refugee program [link removed]).??????

As always, the National Immigration Forum will continue to advocate for immigrants and refugees, urging our elected officials to take the steps to work together and find solutions that will help everyone thrive. Now more than ever, it's important to work towards unity. Please join us [link removed] in speaking up for commonsense immigration solutions that are both just and compassionate. Together, it's possible.????

Stay committed and hopeful,??
